TUCSCON, ArizonaThe NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series returned to Tucson Raceway Park Saturday Night with three NASCAR divisions and th introduction of a full season of Legends and Bandoleros. The Bud Five Star Series competition was supplied by the NASCAR Super Late Models, Late Models, and Factory Stocks. Week two of the 2005 season saw seven year racing veteran Mike Egurola take home his very first Super Late Model main event win. Egurola was able to hold off last weeks winner, Chuck Wares, in the first race of this years Triple Crown Series. Ron Norman was the nights quick qualifier, however, he drew a six at the pill draw moving him to the third row allowing Egurola to start from the pole. Action quickly heated up and by lap four an incident in turn one brought out the and only yellow of the night. With Egurola in the lead Chuck Wares sat in third behind the second place Dusty Fielden and in front of Ron Norman and Joe Paladenic in fourth and fifth spots. By lap seven Wares had moved put past Fielden to set the stage for a forty lap door to door bumper to bumper battle that had race fans glued to the edge of their seats. Wares tried every trick in the book to pass Egurola. Wares tried the low line lap after lap, even dipping two tires below the white line. Any ground gained however would soon be erased as Egurola would pull away in the straights. Disaster almost struck on lap 41 as the two touched coming out of four. As the two swapped paint for the lead rookie driver Brice Bonnett came from the rear of the field and sat in third and was quickly moving in on the leaders. But with only a few laps left Egurola managed to keep the car straight and bring home the victory. Wares came in second allowing him to maintain his points lead. Bonnett with his best finish as a Super Late Model driver came in third Paladenic was fourth and Fielden finished fifth. In the NASCAR Late Model Division Brad Moyer of Vail, AZ pulled off a Main Event win as he went on to win his first race of the 2005 campaign. The night looked promising for Scott Strachan as he led the Late Model division to the green flag with Alan Levin, Brad Moyer and Tim Blodgett close behind. Strachan was setting the stage for a dominating performance until lap seven when he pushed high in turn four. Strachan was able to keep his car off the wall, but allowed Moyer to take the lead. Moyer then took control of the middle groove as Strachan fought his way back into contention. By this time Blodgett had moved into a close third with Levin and Robin Boomgaarden behind in fourth and fifth. On lap 17 Strachan had set himself up for the pass on the outside of Moyer when he once again pushed up coming out of four. Blodgett took advantage and moved into second place. Moyer then held off Blodgett on the last lap for the victory. Blodgett took second with Strachan, Levin and David Nekula rounding of the leader board. The NASCAR Factory Stocks Main Event saw Mike Levin taking home the checkered flag after a second place finish only a week ago. Mike Levin started the night in fourth place behind Bill Harrington who sat on the pole, John Levin in second and Doug Paxson in third. By lap three Paxson had taken over first with Mike Levin on his bumper. Mike Levin was unable to pass Paxson until lap 17 when slower traffic slowed Paxson and Mike Levin was able to pass on the outside. Jerry Gaede also took advantage of the situation and moved into second. Mike Levin and Gaede battled it out for the last three laps which ended with both driver sliding out of turn four with the honors going to Mike Levin and Gaede taking second. .Paxson ended the night in third with Chris Smith on the leader board in fourth and John Levin in fifth. New to the 3/8 mile of Tucson Raceway Park, the Bandoleros put on yet another exciting event. The crowed took to their feet as drivers from the ages of 8 to 15 tackled the high banks of TRP. Steve Sussox took home the trophy and the checkered flag followed by Romero Cienni in second Albert Flores was third Greyson Weaver and Connor Kassik took fourth and fifth. The Legends staged their own strong performance in a 20 lap main event dog fight. Derek Frolich grabbed top honors with his dominating victory. Matthew Williams took second with Cassie Gannis, Suave Brachowski and Chris Weilenmann finishing in the top five.
