Tim Bost of Roseville, with 18 years of racing experience at All American Speedway, won the debut of the West Car Late Model Series at the quarter-mile paved oval track, Saturday.
Bost, who has many wins in the former Norcal series and in the prestigious Rose Classic, took the lead from Dan Knight of Ukiah on the opening lap and never looked back in the 100 lap race that was ended prematurely at 82 laps.
West Car did a great job, Bost said. We had a good turnout and the officials ran a good show.
22 cars took the green flag for the race that paid over $8,000 in awards.
Bost charged to a half-lap lead before he made contact with Richie Crowell of Redding sending Crowell spinning to bring out a yellow-checkered on lap 82.
I had no brakes after lap 20 and I just held on, Bost said. The new asphalt was great it provided two lines of racing tonight.
Bost drove a team car with Gary Glenn, who was the ast-time qualifier on the night with a 13.13 second lap on the newly paved track.
After taking the lead at the start, Bost met lap traffic on the 34th lap. Melissa Davis of Santa Rosa and Don Lehman of Rio Linda made heavy contact in turn three and Bost narrowly avoided the incident.
Midway through the race, Chris Baker of Carson City spun, sparking a chain reaction wreck that send Jay Bradley of Carson City into the wall.
Mike Lehman of Rio Linda spun across the race track and was hit by Glenn. Glenn retreated to the pits for quick repairs, but Lehmans car suffered heavy damage and was done for the night.
On the restart, Travis Combs of Sacramento found a way around Knight for the second position after a five lap battle.
2003 Pro Stock champion Byron Gonzales of Carmichael and Scott Chappell of Lodi had a strong battle for the fourth position after getting around Mike Mansch of Roseville.
Late in the race, Glenn raced his way up to Gonzales and took the fourth position with his heavily damaged car.
I had to use my tires to get around Mansch, Gonzales said. I still feel like I would have had a shot at the lead, but I spent too much time on Mansch.
