ERIE, Colorado -- The Savage Man, Dan Savage out of Aurora CO, set quick time with a 16.086 Greeley’s Bruce “The Moose” Yackey took advantage of starting outside front row and never looked back as Chris Archer had a steady line running 2nd with the rest of the field in tow. Billy Givens Jr. had an impressive run going in 3rd but started to slowly fade as the Late Model veterans began to make the march to the front.
With 15 laps to go The Moose was Loose and setting a blistering pace but a spin by the #11 of Darren Robertson brought out the yellow flag and that set up a great 7 lap shoot out with the top five being Yackey, Archer, Avants, Backman, and Smith. Backman was able to slip by Avants and Archer going into turn 3 with Rick Smith challenging Archer for 4th place. Chris Archer was able to take back 4th place coming out of turn 4 as the “Moose” Bruce Yackey Scored his first win of 2005.
In Pro Truck action Brian Pacheco was quick time with a 16.204. Dan Savage driving the #63 for Mike Dombrowski took the field to the green with #33 Beau Kellogg on his rear bumper. Lap 3 Kellogg looked inside and was able to make the pass for the lead with the #0 of “The Painter” Billy Harkins taking advantage and moving into 2nd place as Tim Billinger, Mike Bowen, and defending champion John Luck were involved in a turn 1 incident that sent Tim Billinger hard into the wall ending his night, Bowen and Luck were able to make repairs and join the field for the lap 8 restart. #17 Paul Deines made a move into 4th and was going inside of the “New Yorker” Rick Russolello as they made contact and both bounced off the backstretch wall with Chris Leaf, Lee Kemmit and Troy Witthar getting collected in a mess trying to avoid the trucks bouncing off the wall. Russolello, Kemmit and Leaf were unable to rejoin the field.
Lap 16 was the restart and again Kellogg was able to get a comfortable lead over the Zero of Harkins with Witthar making a nice move inside of Savage to take away 3rd from the Late Model ace. Lap 26 saw Mike Bowen back it into the front-stretch wall bringing out the yellow. Kellogg got another great jump on Harkins and went on to a crowd pleasing win as #47 John Luck battled from the back to come in 3rd place beating Witthar to the line by mere inches.
Davin Fisbeck out of Thornton laid down the quick time of the night in the Sportsman class with a 17.810. Jeff Webb had the pole for Sportsman A-Main action but on the green flag Tommy Roe made a power move out of turn 2 and takes a big lead over the very fast field, but defending champ Gailey reeled him in and kept him in the sights. Gailey starts to look inside of Roe, the two make contact and the melee was on, Brad Groff looked like he got the worst of the damage but was able to return after his crew secured what was left of the Oldsmobile body. Gailey was sent to the rear of the field turning the lead over to Fisbeck. When racing resumed, John Baker was black flagged for tire smoke from the earlier damage to his ride as Jimbob moved under Van Briggle for 2nd but Rick Hunt wanted 2nd more and took it with a nice outside move the Rogers started to fade to the outside and pulled into the pits ending his night. When it was all said and done Davin Fisbeck pulled into the Stock Building Supply winners circle after winning his first A-Main event.
Chris Vieth out of Thornton sat on the pole for the first Super stock A-Main of the 2005 season but the #7 of Ricky Hunt took the lead out of turn two. By lap 6 Vieth retakes lead with Brad Hersh, Jeff Sluss, and James Ham all in tow. Darren Bucklen spun in turn 3 bringing out the yellow. Restart had great racing from the front to the rear as Hersh takes lead, then caution comes out for oil in the high line, after a quick clean up we were green again but Hersh was sent back two spots for jumping the previouse restart turning the lead over to Vieth. #5 Jeff Sluss was all over the rear of Vieth getting him loose a few times as Lance Baily and Ham were racing for the 4th and 5th positions but in the end, Vieth held on for a great win.![]()
