DAYTONA BEACH, Florida -- Tennessee’s Volunteer Speedway, self proclaimed as “The Fastest Dirt Track,” will become a Level II member in the ASA Racing Member Track Program for their 2005 season.
The 0.40-mile dirt oval, located in Bulls Gap, Tenn., is owned by Phyllis and Joe Loven. Under their guidance, the track has devoted itself to being as one of the most “fan-friendly” short tracks in the country, and offers its visitors all types of conveniences, including reasonable $7 adult grandstand admission, clean restrooms, and a shuttle bus from the lower parking areas.
“The race consumer today has become very savvy, and they know immediately if a racetrack is worth coming back to,” said Dennis Huth of the ASA Racing Member Track program. “Volunteer Speedway has done an outstanding job of catering to the consumer with seemingly little things like fresh paint, clean grounds and restrooms, yet those are exactly the type of things that bring the fans back time and time again – well, that and some of the most exciting racing around.”
The regular Saturday night program features a variety of classes, including the Don Smith Super Late Models, Ramsey Ford Limited Late Models, Lawson Chevrolet UMP Modifieds, Renegade Front Wheel Drive, Backman Bernard Hobby Stock and Allied Home Mortgage Mini Stocks. The track is regularly groomed which provides the drivers with multiple-grooves to race in and provides closer, more thrilling action for the fans.
“We feel honored that the fans choose to come and spend their Saturday nights with us at Volunteer Speedway,” Phyllis explained. “There are a lot of things that they could be doing with their time and money, so we want them to feel good about making the choice to come watch dirt track racing by giving them a clean, comfortable place that they can watch some of the best racing in Tennessee. We try to go out of our way to give our fans a little bit of that traditional Southern hospitality.

“We are proud to become the first racetrack in Tennessee to join the ASA Racing Member Track program,” Phyllis added. “We did it because we felt that it would be a positive move for our facility, our competitors and our sponsors.”
Tracks and regional touring series that join the ASA Racing Member Track Level II program are eligible to receive marketing assistance, enhanced participant accident insurance, and will be the spot for today’s fans to watch the stars of tomorrow learn the trade. Huth indicated that he has other exciting ideas and plans to help take the local racing programs to new levels and to further enhance the coverage of the tracks and series competitors.
