STOCKTON, California -- Mike Garcia, team owner and driver, will have to sit this 30-lap main event out at Stockton 99 Speedway this weekend, but he will watch his second car driven by 3-Time Track Champion, Wes Miller. On opening day, Garcia’s #57 Pontiac Grand Prix suffered some minor cosmetic damage, but it’s the blown transmission that will keep him from racing. Miller finished 8th in the opening day 100-lap main event. Miller was unable to qualify his car during time trials, which put him starting in the very back of the 22-car field. At the end of the day, Miller’s car was one of only a few cars that did not sustain damage.
Garcia and Miller plan on racing in the Tri-Holiday series at Stockton 99 Speedway, and will also run some select West Car series races at Carson City and Roseville. Due to Miller’s work schedule, he is unable to run for championship in the Western Late Model division at Stockton. Garcia has run the full past two seasons, but with adding the second car, he has to limit his schedule as well.
Both cars have new main sponsors this year. California Classics Auto Body & Paint graces the hood of the #57, and West Lane Towing has found a home on the #18 hood. Garcia’s car is prepared by crew chief, Frank Vincent, as Miller’s car is prepared by Mike Roos of Roos Race Car Preparation in Ripon, and make it back to the track with help from other sponsors; David’s Racing Products, JME Engine System Development, The Avenue Grill, Meek’s Lumber Company and Richard “Chunk” Wisner.
