UPLAND, California -- 34 Speed Trucks are entered for Saturday night racing at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, California on April 23rd.
“This is our 3rd race for the 2005 racing season and the truck count has averaged 32 per race forcing “B” shows at each event,” reported Jay Rutherford, Speed Truck Challenge President. “The teams know they must show up prepared or face being sent home for the night after failing to transfer to the main event. This action makes each team and driver better and the racing has certainly proved this with only 6 yellows in the last 150 laps and 3 of these yellows for individual spins,“ Rutherford concluded.
For the first time in the 9 year history of the ASA Speed Truck Challenge, 4 Rookies #03 Matt Jaskol, #69 Clay Andrews, #92 Matt Daly and #59 Kyle Cattanach, are sitting atop the Championship Points order board with the 2003 and 2004 Champion Lee Hatch in 5th place.
Marcus Smith in his #57 Ballistic Motorsports Ford Ranger will compete at Mesa Marin Raceway on Saturday night and is the only African American driver in the ASA Speed Truck Challenge.
Gabi DiCarlo in her #81 Great Clips For Hair Chevy S-10 will debut this Saturday night as the first female to compete in the ASA Speed Truck Challenge for 2005.
The ASA Speed Truck Challenge will race 14 times in 2005 at Irwindale Speedway, Mesa Marin Raceway, Orange Show Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway and will return to road course racing at the Saint John’s Grand Prix as a part of the ASA Pro Auto Sports Challenge race over the Labor Day weekend in September. All of the 14 races will be nationally televised on the Outdoor Channel with 28 broadcasts from July 23rd through December 3rd, 2005.
