Hurricane Andrew Murphy, age 10, sponsored by Tim Wells Tires, Napa of Palmdale and Walsma Oil Company dominates the field again. "This was our first time at Barona Speedway" Says Jeff Murphy "Andrew likes to win the first race at any new track, He takes that title very seriously."
His racing showed that intensity this last weekend at Barona Speedway, of the 12 mini dwarfs that raced the main event only 3 where on the lead lap. Hurricane Andrew has won 4 of the 8 sanctioned races this season. The cars all must meet very strict rules, so the class is all about driver ability. Each race all drivers receive ribbons ad trophies. "This is the first year we have run for points, the kids take this very seriously, and even with Andrews dominance of the main events he is tied for first in the points battle."
Says Jeff Murphy, "Rad Chad, age 9, sponsored by Spotted Dog Embroidery is also tied for first, Chad has been consistent every race, winning his heat races earns a 5 point bonus, and that really adds up" All the winning hasn't been reserved for Hurricane Andrew though, the younger drivers, age 5 and 6 are also running their own battle, Daring Devin Myrick age 6 is not only leading the Rookie of the year battle, but is also third in points overall, after winning a Main Event at Victorville Auto Raceway on May 27th, 2000.
"The fans really get a kick out of watching these young drivers,
ages 5-15 race, the stands go crazy when someone makes a pass."
continues Jeff. "If you want to watch some good racing come on out and
watch these kids race"![]()
