MONROE, Washington --Saturday night May 7, Evergreen Speedway will have many of the areas politicians running race cars. Normally running for office, they will have a chance to win via the checkered flag and not the poles.

The Everett Herald and Evergreen Speedway will stage the third annual Mayor’s Cup Race in conjunction with a ‘Super 7’ racing program. The governments of Everett, Marysville, Lake Stevens, Sultan, Monroe, Snohomish County and Gold Bar will be represented. Last years winner who represented the Everett Mayor’s office Jeff ‘the Fish’ Aaron from radio station KRKO will be back to defend.

The ‘Super 7’ night will feature seven divisions including the NASCAR Speedway Chevrolet Super Stocks, NASCAR Les Schwab Tires Bombers, Northwest Legends, Extreme Contact Figure Eights, Stinger 8’s, Hertz Equipment Rental Hornets and Boat Races.

In the first five weeks of the race season at Evergreen Speedway there has been parity in all seven divisions with no repeat winners.

The first three races of the 20-race series for the NASCAR Speedway Chevrolet Super Stocks division have had three different winners. John Zaretzke, Shane Harding and Gaylon Stewart have each showed they are to be contended with for the coveted championship of the Speedway’s premier division. Five time Super Stock Champion Tom Moriarity is expected to come out of retirement this week in the Matt Murphy owned car. Two of this season’s rookie class Jason Fraser and Naima Lang have had strong finishes and could get their first win.

Steve Ptacek, Darin Stordahl, Jim Foti and Craig Rowalt have each made a trip to the track’s victory stage with wins in the NASCAR Les Schwab Tires Bomber Division. Defending Champion Naima Lang, Duane Schosboek and Travis Blackwood have been competitive but have fallen a bit short of a win.

The Northwest Legend Division has also not had a dominate driver with Matt Barrett, Rick McNeil, Duane Swanson, Tom Matheson some of the top performers in these super fast 5/8 scale motorcycle powered race cars.

The Bump to Pass Extreme Contact Figure Division has not had repeat winner this season leaving their championship wide open.

A new division called Stinger 8’s is never over until the driver makes it though the figure eight X the last time. Two of this seasons finishes were affected by the leader getting into trouble on that last pass into the X.

The Hertz Equipment Rental Hornet Division is designed as a low budget way to go racing. These 4-cylinder cars have provided the fan with much to talk about.

The race fans in attendance Saturday could also be winners with great prizes to given to those that sign up for a subscription of the Everett Herald Newspaper.

The Puget Sound Area’s opening week of boating season will be celebrated on Evergreen

Speedway’s Figure Eight track with a boat race. Cars towing yachts through the X of the figure eight has to be seen.
