MONROE, Washington -- After all the action subsided on Saturday night at Evergreen Speedway the reality set in on what had happened. Not only did a driver win their first ever NASCAR Les Schwab Tires Bomber main but it was also the first time ever that the feat had been accomplished by a women. Jill Lang, in her rookie season, won and changed track history. The NASCAR Speedway Chevrolet Super Stock winner was Shane Harding. NASCAR’s Mini-Stock main went to Nat Barber. Figure Eight wins in the Super division for John Carlson and in the Extreme Contact division it was Nick Niesen. The small car demolition derby winner was Ken Bates.
Instantly a new Saturday night star has emerged from the pack. The large crowd embraced this new star as she won her first ever NASCAR Bomber A-Main. Jill Lang in her rookie season and only her sixth race made history at the 51-year old facility. No women had ever won the A-Main in the NASCAR Bomber division. Lang took the lead at the beginning, starting on the pole. A caution with one lap to go in the 30-lap event bunched the pack up for the restart. On the restart Travis Blackwood made a challenge for the lead. In turn one as the white and green were flying, Blackwood went inside of Lang and by turn two was alongside. As the pair exited turn two, a drag race down the backstretch ensued as the crowd rose to their feet. Lang drove as hard as she could and was able to hold her speed going through turn three pulling back ahead of Blackwood. As the duo raced off turn four to the finish line Lang was not to be denied the honor of being first in the race and also history. With all this happening in front of him husband and division point leader Naima Lang watched as he finished directly behind the two in third. Jill was met at victory circle by Naima and dad Ron Fritzly, both beamed with pride.
A six car invert did not deter Shane Harding from winning a second NASCAR Super Stock main this season. By lap ten of the 50-lap main Harding had caught race leader Jason Fraser. The two duked-it-out for a few laps but Harding had too much car for Fraser. After moving to the front Harding pulled away and cruised to the victory. Fraser finished second and Tom Hughs a career best third.
Nat Barber the defending NASCAR Mini-Stock champion drove to a second win in three starts this season. Barber, as he did in his first win, was no match for anyone in the division. Jamie Richardson finished a distant second and Rick Lapinski was third.
The cowboy, John Carlson, drove a masterful race in the 30-Lap Super Figure Eight A-Main. First half race leader Doug Wilkinson kept Carlson at bay as the two bumped their way through the X, lap after lap. A slip by Wilkinson was all that Carlson needed as he drove on to win his first main this season. Wilkinson finished second ahead of Doug Delfel.
For the second week in a row Nick Niesen slithered through the X to win the Extreme Contact Figure Eight main event. Point leader Noah Chandler was a strong second and Josh Beckel was third.
