Madera Speedway and thir new promoters are excited to add the 600 Racing Thunder Roadsters to there weekly open wheel program. They have landed a local dealer, Gasoline Alley, owned by Brian & Sondra Smart of Clovis, CA, and are ready to start taking orders on the new cars. We know it's going to take awhile to get the class built up to a full field of cars, but we believe through exhibition runs, and having demo days for interested drivers, we will soon have a full field of cars.
By 2006 we hope to have a regular racing schedule as well as special events like a little Indy 500, and some racing legends of the brickyard, Kearney bowl, Clovis speedway and Madera speedway competing in special races.
Thunder Roadster
Last Saturday night Bill Vukovich took several laps around Madera Speedway in on of the Roadsters and was very impressed, not only with the way the car handled and the power, but how much it resembled in looks and size as the original Watson Roadster that AJ Watson made so famous in the 60's.
In about a lap Vuky had the roadster up to full speed and looked as smooth as if he never stepped out of competitive racing. He gave the car a big thumbs up and said that 20 of those cars racing around would be as good a racing as you will ever see. Bill also said that the high pitch of the Yamaha 1250 engine and the popping sound going into the corners reminded him of the Novi roadsters of the 50's and 60's.
