It was Tom Moriarity's night in the winner's circle making this his 5th win this 2000 season and leader in points. John Bender came in 2nd, with Kelly Mann (#9), Kenny Smith (#29) and James McVey (#11) making the top 5 at Evergreen Speedway this Saturday Night. Jim McVey took the Timberwolf Hard Charger Award for the night, by advancing 9 positions.
The main event lineup started with Moriarity and Bender side by side. Bender sped his way to 2nd position very early in the event and by lap 14 had the lead. However, Moriarity was quickly moving in and breathing down Bender's back and soon managed to acquire the lead and carried it right through the checkered flag. The event had its share of 'flags'. Larry Best of the #40 car had some problems in lap 24 and started going sideways and hit the inside wall hard enough to make it move, causing a yellow. He was okay, so it was "1" for Larry "0" for the wall. All in all, a great race for the fans and the rivalry is still on between Moriarity and Bender.
The Exide Street Stock Bomber Division Main Event of the night saw John O'Mack (#32) take the lead very early on. By lap 19 the #10 car of Dave Lund was closing the gap and putting the pressure on O'Mack who handled it like a pro with the checkered flag looming close, he held the groove down low and kept Lund from being able to pass anywhere but on the outside, which was just enough to push him right across that finish line and take his first win of the 2000 season.
Dave Lund (10) took 2nd place, Brice Christensen (#85) 3rd, Lex Johnson (#42) and Scott Mann (#6) rounding out the top 5. In the B-Main event, the #91 car of Gary Flammang came from the back of the pack (14th position) to take the win 'clean as a whistle'. He took the trophy as he had to "go to work". Great job Gary.
The NASCAR Mini Stock division had an exciting night in their 25 lap main event. It was a "Steve Green" show as he took the lead very early on and never let it go, making this his 3rd win of this 2000 season. There were many coming-on-strong trying to take that position away from Green, but only a couple came within reach. Keith McKenney (#32) was gaining and pulled the 2nd position. Bobby DeYoung (#65) (finishing 3rd .) and Mark Weedin (#01) (4th) were running a very close race and giving the fans quite a show. To the complete the top 5, it was the #00 car of Chuck Richard.
The FEAR Club, as usual, gave us all a very exciting night in the 'world's most dangerous intersection' with a very full field of cars, and adrenaline was running hot. Mike Buse of the #85 car held a very strong lead through lap 12 when #11 of Ken Schukar hit the 85 and spun him out bringing a black flag to the field which caused the #11 to leave the track. The #50 car of John Carlson took the lead position with the car #53 in 2nd. These two battled it in-and-out in that notorious intersection where in the end it was Doug Wilkinson (53) taking the trophy home, making this his 1st win for the season. John Carlson (50) took 2nd place, Gary Lee (19) placed 3rd, Daryl "Spanky" Swineheart and Doug Delfel holding the 4th and 5th position. To top the night off, we were entertained by Speedo the Speedway Clown who was a hit with all the kids, young and young at heart. Just another fun night of racing and entertainment at the Super Speedway of the Northwest, Evergreen Speedway.
