Yakima Late Model veteran Troy Conrad dominated the 100 lap Big Ten Super Late Model main event Saturday night at Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval. Making his first ever trip to the facility a good one Conrad is now eleigible for the $20,000.00 payday at the Wenatchee 200 scheduled at the end of September.

Starting on the pole, Conrad led every one of the 100 laps. Challenges came from Shane Mitchell (Wenatchee), Jeff Bailey (Pasco) and late in the race from Dan Spivey (Rainier). Alas, no one had anything for the winner as he collected the $2,500.00 payday for the win.

In the other Big Ten Super Late Model action, Mitchell started off the night with fast time of 12.703. The A trophy dash was won by Conrad, over Bailey, Mitchell and Travis Bennett (Ellensburg) who had his best ever qualifying effort with second quick time. The B trophy dash featured Peshastin’s Chuck Ogle winning over East Wenatchee veteran Curt Phillips and Devon Eireman of Tacoma.

The lady driver from Mead, WA Sherri Howard made it two wins in a row in the Winged Modified division of the Big Ten Series. This despite a motor that was running on less than the eight cylinders it has. During the three yellow flag periods, Howard would signal to her pit the number 6, telling htem she had dropped a cylinder or two. It showed briefly on the first two restarts as she was slower to pull away than she had been. ON the final restart though she must’ve found the esxact right way to power around the quarter mile as she pulled away from Dan Martin for the win. Before the final caution, Martin had his best chance to win, as he caught Howard in traffic, at times the two were three wide going under and around slower cars, but Howard eventually made the right guess and kept the lead spot.

A new track record was set in qualifying as points leader Mark Falstad (Ephrata) went 11.765 to beat the old mark set by Bill Cress two weeks ago at 11.778. Falstad had his car wickedly fast and as he started his warm up laps for the A trophy dash saw his trak record motor blow up right before his very eyes. Track veteran, but Winged Modified rookie Steve Floyd saw the dilemma that the points leader was in and lent him his car for the heat and feature. A sportsmanlike gesture and our kudo’s to Floyd for making the gesture. The trophy dash wins went to Howard in the A dash, and newcomer Cameron Stark in the B dash. Stark made the long tow from Suquamish, WA for the race. The Winged Modified heat races were won by East Wenatchee driver jon Wood in his first full night of racing the open wheelers and by Martin who had the #24 car in the hunt all night long.

Springfield, Oregon is home to Quick Rick Brown. A long tow to Wenatchee. Brown made the most of the long trek with a blistering fast 11.135 fast qualifying run to set fast time for the 360 Sprints. James Grantham of West Seattle won the A trophy dash and led all 25 laps of the main event. Randy DuBois of Poulsbo won the B dash. The heat race was captured by Lynnwood’s Todd Coleman.
