![]() YAKIMA, Washington -- What started out as a 100 lap main ended with a 75 lap main and three cars left running. The night began fast as all cars timed in the under 19.5 seconds. Both trophy dashes proved to be a prelude to an exciting evening when Kelly Mann, and Brian McCoy both won in their trophy dashes. But it was the main event that saw a black flag and a field of cars whittled down to three because of wrecks, flat tires, and a blown engine. Darrell Tidrick took the lead on the first lap and began to make it look like a repeat of last weekends race of winning the late model race. On lap 3 Mark Sundberg lost it going through turn 3 and Christian Roeder having no place to go brakes hard only to plow into Sundberg. But behind Roeder was Christopher Kalsch and with Roeder’s hard braking it wasn’t hard for Kalsch to slide under Roeder’s car to wedge Roeder’s rear end into the air. All drivers walked away unhurt with Ken Olsen black flagged and sent to the back of the pack for rough driving. The race resumed with Darrell Tidrick taking the lead and keeping it until lap 10 when Shane Biles passed for the lead from the inside. With Biles in the lead, Tidrick in second, Brian McCoy in third, and Ron Dexter in fourth, the race for third heated up as Dexter and McCoy were running fender to fender and staying with Tidrick until lap 22. Dexter bumped Tidrick into McCoy and McCoy breaking an oil line on to the track launching Tidrick and McCoy off of turn one. Tidrick rolled his car end over end into a tree as McCoy slid off the track with him. Again both drivers walked away. Later Darrell Tidrick stated, “I shook the tree and didn’t know it”. This left only six cars to restart on lap 23 with Shane Biles keeping the lead until lap 41 as Dexter tried to pass on the inside and Biles spinning off of turn 3, giving Dexter the lead. On the restart of lap 42 with Dexter in the lead and Kelly Mann on his bumper and right behind them is Ken Olsen and Ron Bemis hanging back and watching what will play out in the following laps. On lap 51 Mann begins his charge to the inside of Dexter and for four laps Mann keeps gaining on Dexter until he finally completes the pass on lap 55 for the lead. Olsen stayed in Mann’s groove to do the same and passes Dexter also. Ron Bemis passes Dexter for third as Dexter’s tires went away. Olsen begins his charge as he passes Mann on the inside on lap 68 only to loose it in the middle of turn 3 and 4. Mann regains the lead with Ron Bemis on his tail when Bemis blows a tire and looses it on lap 73 and Olsen begins to loose an engine. The white flag was thrown and the checkered saw Mann, Dexter, and Kriss Clark as the top three finishers. The Hobby Stock Class saw a 24 car field start the evening and 21 cars start the main event. Jamison Armstrong set fast time with a 24.7, as his set-up is getting better every time he races. Again the trophy dashes saw the cars running hard and close as Don Sowder showed how patience and clean driving has made it three trophy dashes in a row for him this weekend. The A dash saw some good competition until the last lap when Chet Beaman Jr. was black flagged for rough driving. The main event had Bill Benge taking the lead then loosing it to Dusty John on the second lap. On lap 14 saw the first yellow as Tyler Guthmiller spun his car and then two laps later saw Jeff Benge lose it and bringing out the second yellow. Dusty John kept the lead until lap 20 when Buck Noel Jr. took the lead and didn’t look back for the rest of the 30 lap main event. This makes it Noel Jr’s fourth win of the current season. In the Hornet Division A.J. Rose is continuing his winning ways as he worked his way through the 21 car field. Jesse Eaton took the lead from the start and kept it until lap 12 of the 15 lap main event when Rose and Eaton were passing a slower car in the middle of the track with Rose in the inside and Eaton taking the outside, Rose took the lead. The only yellow came out when Matt Sutton’s car died and wouldn’t start again on the front straight. The Bump to Pass Division had 11 cars filling out the field. The main event had Robert Albert taking the lead for four laps before Mark Bolster came bumping and banging his way to the front for the win. The car of Shannon Davis had to be pushed off the track after starting the main event only to see her car die on the front straight. Yakima Speedway is currently looking for a track reporter for this race season. Please contact Ron Bennett for details. Yakima Speedway Results - June 11, 2005
