As the competition heats up in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series, drivers leading the Division II standings are rising to the occasion – with five of the top eight competitors scoring wins this week.
Included among those division leaders is Allison Duncan of San Rafael, Calif., who notched her first win Saturday, June 11, in the Western Late Model class at California’s Stockton 99 Speedway. Duncan is part of a driver development program with West Coast-based Bill McAnally Racing and Richard Childress Racing, in conjunction with the Drive for Diversity Program endorsed by NASCAR.
In addition to moving atop the track championship standings at Stockton 99 Speedway, the victory propelled Duncan to eighth in the Division II standings. To go along with her win, she has six top-five and seven top-10 finishes in seven races at the historic quarter-mile paved oval.
Other drivers in the division to visit victory lane over the weekend included Chris Spieker of Massena, Iowa; Eric Richardson of Bakersfield, Calif.; Travis Sharpe of North, South Carolina; and Robert Barker of Boerne, Texas.
Spieker – who leads the division – charged from 11th on the grid to grab his second win of the season at Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa, on Saturday, June 11. As he has done in recent weeks – Spieker headed to I-80 Speedway at Nebraska Raceway Park in Greenwood, Neb., on Sunday. Despite mechanical trouble, he was able to come home with a fifth-place finish there.
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Divisional point standings are calculated using each driver’s best results from any races held at tracks within their division. Adams County Speedway and I-80 Speedway are both in Division II, meaning drivers can race at both tracks and accumulate points towards the title.
For the second week in a row, the I-80 event was won by Ed Kosiski over his brother Joe – who is second in the division standings.
Richardson, meanwhile, moved to third in the division standings by virtue of his win, along with a runner-up finish, in twin 50-lap features for the Late Model Stock Cars at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield. Sharpe is fourth in the division standings this week after winning a 100-lap Late Model Stock feature race, his fifth victory of the season at North Carolina’s Concord Motorsport Park. Barker also picked up his fifth win of the year, with a victory at San Antonio Speedway.
