IRWINDALE, California -- George Ruark, 43, will race his first Elite Division Southwest Tour Car race this Saturday night at Irwindale Speedway, in Southern California.
Ruark purchased GR Underground Southwest Tour Car from last years late model national champion Greg Pursley. Though he has tested the car since then, this will be his first competitive event.
“It’s very exciting, not just for me, but for our team, our crew and our sponsors,” Ruark said. “It’s another step in the right direction for the Ruark Racing team.”
Ruark plans to run a limited amount of races in the Southwest Tour Car throughout this season.
The Southwest Tour Car race will be nationally televised on Speed Channel later this year.
“Everyone is really excited about the debut of the Southwest Tour Car,” said fellow Ruark Racing driver Jimmy Sloan. “George is a great driver and we can’t wait to see what he does in this division.”
Ruark will also be racing the Ruark Racing Late Model Saturday night at Irwindale.
“Racing both races in one night is going to be great,” Ruark said. “I have a great crew and I know they are up to the challenge.”
The Ruark Racing Late Model is # 19 and the Ruark Racing Southwest Tour Car is #8.
