From Podium to DNF . . . I guess that’s how racing goes. Coming into Mesa Marin after a second place finish in Las Vegas, you could say I was just a bit more than pleased to have qualified second for the race.
The first half of the race went beautifully. I led the race through the half-way marker. Unfortunately shortly after that, I hit the wall in turn three. This series’ competition is tight and aggressive! The very bad news is that my truck was pretty much totaled. Now that was the real set-back, because with limited funds, it will be a struggle to make that next race at the Orange Show.
I wanted to thank my fellow racers who came by to offer their condolences. A very special ‘thank you’ to Chris Hines for his offer of help. I will be calling him soon. Team Fedderson and Team Cattanach were also very kind and thoughtful.
Of course each dark day has its silver lining. I was totally shocked, but very honored at the fan reaction and support I received after this race. The fans made it their special project to come over to the pits to make sure I was okay after the crash. Their outpouring of concern was amazing. I was so happy that team MSR had a supply of T-Shirts and Hats (thanks to sponsor HASA Pool Products) to give the supportive spectators.
In conclusion, Moses Smith Racing will try to be back for the Orange Show next week. The team has labored very hard at the shop, assessing the damage to the race truck and salvaging what parts we could. If I make that race, I wish to dedicate it to all the fans in the stands. This is one racer who knows that they are the reason this sport is as wonderful and popular as it is.
