This Saturday Stockton 99 Speedway will play host to the second leg of the HAVOLINE Western Late Model Tri-Holiday Classic 100-lap race, the 100-lap CALIFORNIA WELDING SUPPLY SRL Wildwest Shootout, CL BRYANT American Limited Stock Cars and Pro-4 Trucks. The huge, four-division night will treat NASCAR DODGE Weekly Series race fans to a field of more than 80 cars and more than 250 laps of quarter-mile, paved oval racing action!
But racing isnt the only thing that NASCAR fans are in for Saturday night! For the 59th year in a row fans will be treated to a huge, Fourth of July aerial fireworks show. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free CALIFORNIA WELDING SUPPLY hat, and during the Salute to the Memory of JD Moore, 1,000 red, white and blue balloons will be released as JDs father John Moore drives around the track waving a checkered flag. JD perished in a track accident in October 2004, John has dedicated his 2005 WLM racing season to his spirit, which "races on."
The big July 4 Fireworks display will be launched after dark, its a show that is sure to be as memorable as all 59 of Stockton 99 Speedways fireworks shows have been!
More than 25 drivers are expected to compete in the Tri-Holiday Classic 100! All will be pulling triple-duty, as the race offers them points awards on the Tri-Holiday, Western Late Model and Weekly Series Division II points boards.
Stockton's Pete Anderson Jr., San Rafael's Allison Duncan, Granite Bay's Moore, Turlock's Chris Monez and Chowchilla's Eric Humphries, Weekly Series first through fifth place points holders, will all be on the track.
Anderson Jr. currently leads the WLM points race and the Tri-Holiday series. He's won Stockton 99 Speedway's last two 100-lap races, which included the season opener and the first leg of the Tri-Holiday, you can bet that he'll be seeking to retain his standing and to hold the Tri-Holiday lead.
Moore has three main event wins under his belt, two of which came on nights when he swept the division. Duncan has a main event win. Monez has the car and talent needed to gain a win, but just hasn't yet had the chance to take one. Humphries, last year's WLM Rookie of the Year, has taken a trip to victory lane this season, but a 100-map win would definitely leave a mark.
If gamblers were to chance anything on this Saturday's Tri-Holiday Classic, it would have to be that none of these drivers are going to give an inch in the quest for the checkered flag and a trip to victory lane.
Elk Grove's Jason Fensler has been dominating the 100-lap CALIFORNIA WELDING SUPPLY SRL Wildwest Shootout series. He may have handily won the first two at Stockton 99 Speedway, but on Saturday he's going to be challenged by more than just the field's regular drivers. Moore will also be joining the pack, and on the night dedicated to the memory of JD, he'll undoubtedly be driving an inspired couple of races.
Also gunning for an SRL win will be all three members of Modestos Belletto family, which includes track multi champ Harry and his two sons Jeff and 2004 SRL Champ, Steve. Ceres Kenny Boyd, will be running the SRL race as will Eric Schmidt of Roseville.
2004 WLM track Champ Dave Byrd is scheduled to race in both 100-lap events. In the first Tri-Holiday Byrd pulled a third place finish driving the Miller Motorsports number 21 Dodge Intrepid. He didn't fare as well in the SRL, finishing 18th, but the driver from Monterey can never be counted out of a possible win at Stockton 99 Speedway. Stockton 99 Speedways 2004 Rookie of the Year, Joey Stearns, of Stockton, will also be racing in both 100s.
Adding excitement to the twin 100s will be the CL BRYANT American Limited Stock Cars and the Pro-4 Trucks.
ALSC leader Charlie Clawson, of Modesto, will be back on the pavement competing against last weeks winner Donny Darter of Stockton. Stocktons Joe Allen, Chad Holman and Richard Harper will also be racing for a first; if Stocktons Kannai Scantlen shows, then the usual race intensity will climb off of the chart!
The Pro-4 Trucks top five points leaders, Mark Henslee of Lathrop, Mike Curry of Lodi, Ron Robeck of Milpitas, Nathan McNeil of Oakdale and Brian Hitchcock of Manteca, are all expected Saturday. Three of the top five have won mains this season, but all have proven that they have the trucks needed to take the checkered flag. It could be anyones race.
