With a brand new track surface down on the 3/8ths mile oval the speeds were up and so was the action. Three track records were broken in the North Star Yachts and Commercial Drivers Services Sportsman, Mini Cup Open Division and the Future Stars. The Top Notch Trailers Street Stocks and the 360 Wingless Sprints were faster but didn’t break the records.
Bradley Shaw and Brandon Finch tied down to the third number for the new track record in the North Star Yachts and Commercial Drivers Services Sportsman with a 13.880. Pat Clark won the trophy dash, his first ever at South Sound Speedway. John Boyatt and Tom Smitham started on the front row of the main event. Boyatt took the lead from lap one with Smitham in second. The first caution of the race came on lap three when Bradley Shaw spun and collected Jack Allen and Kelly Ensor. Brandon Finch was running third behind Smitham until lap 20 when he got by. The next lap a caution was thrown for Kelly Ensor spinning. Boyatt was still out front with Brandon Finch in second and Tom Smitham in third. Devin Eierman got by Smitham and so did Paul “Pappy” Welch. Finch began to lose ground on Boyatt after giving him a great run for his money. Finch was having oil pressure problems and dropped back to fourth. John Boyatt won his third main event of the season. Devin Eierman came in a close second followed by Paul “Pappy” Welch. Shane Sawin finished fourth and Brandon Finch was fifth. Tom Smitham, Mark Jones, Pat Clark, Kelly Ensor and Jeff Bracale were the top ten. This was Bracale’s first time in a Sportsman car.
Ron Ehli qualified fast for the Top Notch Trailers Street Stocks. Mike Saylors won the trophy dash over Jay Hopkins, Leon Ames and Ehli. Paul Hopkins won the B heat race with BJ Brown in second and Bill Posh Jr. in third. Jordan McGregor won the A heat race over Mike Saylors and Jay Hopkins. Posh and Paul Hopkins started on the front row. Hopkins took the lead and Mike Brooks moved into second. Hopkins had a good lead over the pack. Brooks was contending with Mike Saylors in third, Jay Hopkins in fourth and Ron Ehli in fifth. Brooks was having his best run of the season when he began to leak water and blew something in his motor and spewing water all over the track on lap 18. It was a disappointing end to a great night. Paul Hopkins was still out front with his brother Jay Hopkins in second and Mike Saylors in third. Lap 20 brought the end to another great run when Paul Hopkins blew his motor after leading the race from lap one. Jay Hopkins now has the lead with Mike Saylors in second and Ron Ehli in third. Hopkins lost the lead on lap 26 to Saylors but Ron Ehli got around him on lap 27. Ron Ehli won his first main event at South Sound Speedway. Jim Swanson was second and Jordan McGregor was third. Jay Hopkins ended up fourth and Mike Saylors was fifth. Saylors seemed to have the car to beat until he shredded a tire.
Dale Petry started out his night by qualifying fast for the 360 Wingless Sprints. JR Ray won the trophy dash. Mike Basher led all eight laps of the heat race for the win. Ray was second and Axel Walker was third. Doug Kammerzell led the first two laps of the main event before Dale Petry took over. Petry was running out front when on lap 11. Petry got into some lapped traffic and hooked his tire on one. His car flipped a few times and ended up on the turn one wall. Petry was fine but the race was red for a time while the crew cleaned up. Axel Walker now was leading with JR Ray in second. The pair battled back and forth for a few laps before Ray got himself way out front. Ray won his third main event of the season. Mike Basher was second and Axel Walker was third. Glenn Walker finished fourth and Doug Kammerzell was fifth.
Steven Roberts was the fast qualifier for the Mini Cup Open Division. Cody Stewart won the trophy dash in Buddy Benefield’s car. Brooke Lefor led all eight laps of the heat race to win with Stewart and Roberts in tow. Cody Stewart led the first seven laps of the main event before Steven Roberts took over. On lap eight Cody Stewart brought out the yellow flag when Tanner McCombs spun him in Stewart’s old car. McCombs was given a one-lap penalty for the incident. Steven Roberts won his third main event of the season with Brooke Lefor in second and Dave Torrey in third. Terryl Dykstra was fourth and Steven Daskam was fifth.
It turned out to be an awesome night for Zach Blockhan in the Future Star Division. Blockhan first won the trophy dash and then won the heat race. Aaron Stanley was second in the heat race. Stanley had broken the track record earlier in the night. Blockhan led all the 15 laps of the main event to get his first win. It was a hat trick for Blockhan. Aaron Stanley was second and Kayla Roberts was third. Matt Benefield was fourth and Jacob Van Gesen was fifth. Jordan Daskam was sixth with newcomer Brayden McCombs and Dustin Torrey in tow.
