Jimmy Sloan, 23, of Palm Desert, Calif. took second place in the Scott Ruder Mortgage Lending Super Stock at Irwindale Speedway Saturday night.
This finish marks Sloan’s fifth top three finish in a row. He finished first in the previous two races. Sloan ran the fastest lap of the forty-lap race.
Sloan set fast time during qualifying, as he did last week, but there was a four-position invert, starting Sloan on the second row outside.
“We had another awesome car this race,” Sloan said. “I really thought I had the car to win the race, but unfortunately I had some motor problems, but second place isn’t half bad. My crew is great and they’ll have it ready for the next race."
He worked his way up to third before losing cylinder halfway through the race. Fortunately he was still able to hold on for the remainder of the race and push his way into second place with two laps to go.
“Second place down a cylinder is pretty darn good,” said Car Owner George Ruark. “The kid’s impressive.”
Sloan gained another ten points on the points leader of the Irwindale Super Stock Championship point standings. He is now only twenty points away.
Sloan will race the Scott Ruder Lending Super Stock again July 16 at Irwindale Speedway. There are six more Super Stock races at Irwindale this season including a double points race.![]()
