It was officially announced on Saturday night, July 2, at the SRL Supermodified Race at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls, Idaho, that the SRL had sold its Supermodified Division to W C Promotions. SRL Principals Steve Fensler and Davey Hamilton have transferred the assets of the Supermodified Division to W C for an undisclosed purchase price. The assets include, among other things, the contracts for the remaining SRL Supermodified Division Races in 2005. These races will be run under the Supermodified Racing League banner for the remainder of the 2005 season with W C Promotions managing the sanctioning of the events. A name change for the Supermodified Sanctioning Organization is in the works for the 2006 season and beyond. The sale does not affect the Wild West Shootout Late Model Division which continues under Mr. Fensler’s management.
W C Business Promotions Principals are Elizabeth Ann Williams and Rick Cameron.
Williams and Cameron also promote the Madera Speedway in Central California. Miss Williams, a Northern California business woman, owns two Supermodified Teams that compete in the SRL and Mr. Cameron is a veteran Supermodified Driver. Mr. Cameron announced the change of management at the Driver’s Meeting in Twin Falls. He stated that there will be no immediate changes in rules or officiating and that the Supermodified Tour would complete the season as currently scheduled.
Mr. Cameron, whose professional background is in Marketing, announced that
W C would immediately begin seeking corporate partners to help in marketing and promoting Supermodified Racing in the Western States. To that end, he has booked booth space at the upcoming San Jose Grand Prix Champ Car event and that the booth will feature the number 32 Supermodified and will be manned by drivers, car owners, and officials who are currently associated with the Supermodified Division of the SRL. Additional marketing and promotional events are in the planning stages.
The SRL Supermodified Division has four events remaining on the 2005 schedule. Those races are scheduled for Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Oregon; Shasta Speedway in Anderson, California; Madera Speedway in Madera, California; and Altamont Raceway in Tracy, California.
