Taking the lead from Bob Williamson, Mike Johnson went on to score his second straight 20 lap RACE Modified feature victory Friday night at Chowchilla Speedway. It was point leader Johnson's fourth feature win of the season and came aboard his Randy Williams Property Maintenance sponsored Larkins Chassis. Tommy Bostic finished second ahead of Fred Lind. Point leader Steve Stone Sr. scored his second straight 20 lap Super Street Stock feature win ahead of Nathan Corn and Jimmy Lust. Taking advantage of his front row feature start, Matt Borges led all 15 lap to win the Hobby Stock main event ahead of point leader Red Williams and Sydney Finn.
Lind and Williamson drew front row Modified feature starts with Johnson lined up sixth. Williamson raced into the early lead ahead of Robby Jeppesen and Lind. A lap two caution flag flew for a Turn 3 crash involving Bostic, Jerry Movrich and Steven Williams. Williamson led Lind and Jack Stanford on the restart, but a low pass in Turn 4 of the fourth lap put Johnson into third. Stanford spun in Turn 4 for a lap five caution flag. Restarts at Chowchilla call for the leader to have the front row all to themselves, and Johnson rode the outside into the lead on the restart lap. A low pass in Turn 2 of the eighth lap gained Jeppesen third, and Johnson had a half straightaway lead on lap ten wiped out by a crash involving Robert Marsh and Brian Folkner. Johnson continued to lead Williamson on the restart lap, and contact between Lind and Jeppesen saw Jeppensen hit the back wall. A low pass in Turn 2 of the 14th lap gained Bostic third, and he made a similar move around Williamson for second a lap later. Lind took third with a Turn 2 pass on lap 18. However, there was no stopping Johnson as he won ahead of Bostic, Lind, Williamson, Stanford, Dennis Clay, Movrich, Folkner, Hank Silva and Rayomd Casey.
S. Stone had the pole for the Super Street Stock main event and led cousin Ramie Stone and Nathan Corn at the start. The leaders lapped the new car of Speedy Davis on the seventh circuit. A lap ten caution flag was unfurled when fourth place Monty Tomlinson threw a wheel on the front stretch to end his night. S. Stone continued to lead R. Stone and Folkner on the restart. Al Loewen and George Lefler Sr. tangled on the front stretch for a lap 13 caution flag, and R. Stone got a flat tire on the restart. S. Stone led Corn at that point and would keep it that way to the finish as Lust finished third ahead of R. Stone, Lefler, Jim Meyers, Loewen, Tomlinson and Davis.
Borges had the pole for the Hobby Stock main event and set the early pace ahead of Craig Tatum and Williams. Gene Morely stalled on the front stretch for a lap two caution flag. Borges led Williams and Charles Seals on the restart. Finn passed Seals for third on lap four. The lead trio of Borges, Williams and Finn remained the same to the checkered flag with Lester Beavers finishing fourth ahead of Roger Dory, Seals, the Mini Stock of Joshua Boucher, Jerry O'Hagan, Tatum and Morely.
In six lap Modified qualifying heats, Clay and Johnson scored the
victories. Lind came back to win the four lap trophy dash. Tomlinson and R.
Stone won Super Street Stock six lap heat races with Corn capturing the four
lap trophy dash. Phillip Lust suffered mechanical problems in hot laps to
end his night early. Six lap qualifying heat race win in the Hobby Stock

dash.![]()
