LAKESIDE, California -- 2003 NASCAR Southwest Series Champion, Auggie Vidovich II ensured the competition that he is on his way to another championship in 2005 with his recent win, July 16, at Stockton 99 Speedway. Vidovich once again dominated the Stockton, California race, as he did April 30, leading all but six of the 125 laps to claim his third win of the year.
The twenty-four-year-old started on the inside second row after qualifying sixth and adding NASCAR’s invert of eight. Taking over the lead on lap seven, Vidovich lead the remaining 119 laps for a consecutive win on the 1/4-mile oval.
No. 11 Centrifugal Technologies, Ultra Custom Boats, Ransom Brothers True Value Lumber Chevrolet was once again one of the fastest cars in practice and appeared to be the fastest and best handling car in the 22-car field during the evening race. Vidovich had the field covered again making it look easy as he powered ahead after each restart, winning the race by a margin of one-second. By leading the most laps, Vidovich continues to lead the series in laps lead, now at 369.
Crew chief, Mike Harvick, was awarded his third LUNATI Crew Chief Award of the season for Vidovich’s winning car.
Vidovich remains third in the point standings only 12 points out of second and now only 86 points from first as he heads to Pikes Peak International Raceway July 23. Vidovich finished second, July 31, last year in the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Midwest Series race at PPIR crossing the finish line six-tenths behind the winner.
The recent Stockton 99 win brought Vidovich’s Southwest Series win tally up to nine career victories in the Southwest series. Vidovich has won at Tucson Raceway Park (AZ), Sandia Motorsport Park (NM), two wins at Colorado National (CO), three wins at Mesa Marin (CA) and two wins at Stockton 99 Speedway (CA).
