BRANDON WHITT WINS NASCAR CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES RACE AT MEMPHIS MOTORSPORTS PARKCRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES
Date: 07/26/2005
![]() “Getting that first win is unbelievable. It was pretty awesome when we won the pole. We had a great truck from the time we unloaded and hardly made any changes on it. When we started the race and led the first 40 laps, I knew we had a great piece. The guys worked hard in the pits all night, mistake free, and we didn’t lose any track position in the pits. A short track like that, it was imperative to have great pit stops. Truck drove great, and when a couple of guys stayed out we had to work through traffic. But, the truck would drive anywhere. “On the last restart, the green-white-checker, I knew I was going to have to stay real close to Hornaday because he gets great restarts. I figured if I could be within a truck length of him when we took the white flag, I would have a shot at him. “I tell you – I’ve finished first in a Truck Series race and I’ve finished towards the end in a Truck Series race. Both are underrated. “A win like this, for the team, after what we’ve been through this season is just awesome. One thing I can say about this team is they never stop working hard. We’ve gone through an owner change that has not been the slightest bump in the road at all. The guys just kept it business as usual; there have been no major shakeups or changes anywhere. I have to say one thing about this team: when we started it at the beginning of last year we pretty much have all of the people that were there at the start. This team has come a very long way in such a short period of time. “We aren’t a very big organization, so it’s neat that a single truck operation can succeed like this in NASCAR. But, we’ve been able to largely in part because of the backing of Toyota and TRD, which has helped us come a long way with their engineering and entire development with our team.” “It’s awesome that people within racing recognize what we accomplished the other night. When someone calls you from the Nextel Cup garage, and Busch, or even your fellow Truck competitors, it’s a neat feeling. Because a lot of these guys, especially the guys in the Cup Series and some of the older guys in the Truck Series that have told me ‘heck of a job’ or something like that, these are guys that I have grown up watching race. I’m running against them now and have always thought that was pretty neat. To go out there and beat them and be in victory lane against those guys is something amazing to me.
“Having a weekend off right now, I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing. It’s great to have a weekend off and enjoy this for a little while longer. But, to be honest with I’m ready to get back out there and keep the momentum going. I don’t want to stop right now and have the extra week to think about it. We’re on a high note right now, and I just want to keep this going.” See Also .: News Index | E-mail to a Friend Article posted by RacingWest.com staff on 07/26/2005. http://www.racingwest.com
