DAYTONA BEACH, Florida -- Tim Karrick kept pace with NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division I points leader Peyton Sellers, after winning last Saturday night’s Dirt Modified race at Linn County Speedway in Pleasanton, Kan. Karrick, of Basehor, Kan., added 14 points to his season total, thanks to the fact that his win replaced a worse finish on his NDWS Division I record. Karrick now has 1,038 points with 16 starts, seven wins and 14 top-five finishes. The results have come from two NDWS Division I tracks – Linn County and Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.
Under NASCAR’s new points format for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series, a driver’s best 16 finishes are counted towards the divisional title. If a driver races more than 16 times, their poorer finishes are not counted in the NDWS point standings.
Sellers, of Danville, Va., finished second last Saturday night at South Boston (Va.) Speedway and added 12 points to his total. Like Karrick, Sellers’ finish also resulted in a poorer finish getting dropped from his record. Thus, Sellers’ margin in the NDWS Division I point standings is virtually unchanged – a lead of 12 points over second-place Karrick. Sellers has 1,050 points with 16 starts, 10 wins and 13 top-five finishes. He has raced at South Boston as well as Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va. and Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C. Sellers’ 1,050-point total leads all drivers nationally.
Karrick can potentially make up this ground if he wins his next race. A win, which awards 50 points towards the NDWS Division I title, along with the maximum bonus points (20, if there are more than 20 cars in the field), would give Karrick 70 points for that event and displace the worst finish currently being counted on his record: a seventh-place result scored earlier in the year.
Elsewhere, veteran Late Model Stock Car driver Philip Morris, of Ruckersville, Va., made his first appearance in the NDWS Division I top five. Morris is now ranked fourth and has recorded four wins at Motor Mile. Tommy Cherry, a resident of South Mills, N.C. who competes at Langley Speedway in Hampton, Va., improved from seventh to fifth in the NDWS Division I point standings, after finishing second last Saturday night at Langley.
