WILD WEST SHOOTOUT MAKES FINAL VISIT TO MESA MARIN RACEWAY

WILTON, California -- The SRL Wild West Late Model Shootout has been fortunate to visit Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, California on four previous occasions. In 2004 they visited Mesa Marin on three different times as Craig Raudman, Ryan Foster and Mike Mason each scored a victory. It was announced in June that Mesa Marin Raceway will close at the conclusion of the 2005 racing season. Saturday night the Wild West Shootout will make their final laps around the fast high-banked ½ race track during the “Coco Cola 100”. Eric Schmidt won his first career SRL race at Mesa Marin Raceway earlier this season as the series looks for it’s fifth different winner in five races on the historic ½ mile.

Jason Fensler continues to lead the championship standings. Fensler has five victories in seven starts and has also accumulated 3 fast time awards. Fensler finished 15th at Mesa Marin on May 14th. Troy Ermish is second in the championship standings, 50 points behind Fensler. Ermish has yet to win this year but finished a strong fourth at Mesa Marin earlier this season. Mark Smith earned his best career SRL finish at Stockton 99 Speedway on July 2nd when he finished second to Ken Boyd. Smith is third in the championship standings just nine points out of second. Ken Boyd will be looking for back-to-back wins this coming Saturday night. Boyd is six points behind Smith in the fourth position. Roseville’s Eric Schmidt won his only SRL race at Mesa Marin Raceway on May 14th. Schmidt rounds out the top five in points and is looking for the series sweep at Mesa Marin Raceway in the “Coca Cola 100”.

Harold Rieker Jr. currently sits in the sixth position just three points out of the top five. Rieker Jr., earned fast time honors at Shasta Raceway Park on June 4th. Rieker Jr. also led 52 laps at Stockton 99 Speedway on July 2nd as he looks to get to victory lane for the first time. Joey Zampa of Napa, California is seventh in the standings. Zampa looked like he had the car to beat at Mesa Marin back in May as he led late in the race before wrecking in the late stages of the event. Jim Courage Jr. led the 20 laps at Mesa Marin on May 14th before finishing in the tenth position. The Roseville, California driver is currently eight in the championship standings. Victory Circle Chassis and Parts Rookie of the year contender Jeremy Wood of Tracy, California is ninth in the standings. Wood finished eight at Mesa Marin on May 14th. Tracy Bolin of Valley Springs, California rounds out the top ten in the championship standings. Bolin finished 11th at Mesa Marin earlier this season and is looking for his third top ten finish of the year Saturday night.

Jeremy Wood extended his lead in the Victory Circle Chassis and Parts Rookie of the Year point standings with a 12th place finish at Stockton 99 Speedway on July 2nd. Wood now leads Rusty Buholz of Palo Alto by 27 points. In addition to be crowned Rookie of the Year at the season ending awards banquet, the 2005 SRL Rookie of the year will be the recipient of a brand new 2005 Victory Circle Chassis.
