  • Breaking through . Mike Duncan (No. 9 Lucas Oil/Ron's Rear Ends Chevrolet) won the NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series Coors Light 200 by NAPA & Creekside-Mountain Glen Retirement Centers at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wash., on Saturday, July 30. It marked his first victory of the season and his fourth career series win. Duncan entered the event with the best average finish at Monroe among active drivers. He had finished second or third there for three consecutive years. Duncan led 110 of 200 laps en route to the win.

  • Another Bud . Duncan also won the Bud Pole Award at Monroe, his fourth in six races this season. He lapped the .646-mile oval at a speed of 99.232 mph. It marked his 13th career Bud Pole Award, moving him to 10th on the career list in the modern era. Duncan is aiming to surpass his mark of a year ago, when he won seven of 12 Bud Pole Awards.

  • Sarah leads the way . After making an early pit stop for fresh tires and fuel, Sarah Fisher (No. 20 Office Depot/Domino's Pizza Chevrolet) took the lead at Monroe on lap 111. The seven laps she led there are the first laps led by a woman in the history of the West Series.

  • First top fives . For the four drivers who finished in second through fifth, it marked their first top-five finish at Monroe. Second-place David Gilliland (No. 88 RaceCarCeilingFans.com Chevrolet) had a previous best there of sixth last year; third-place Scott Lynch (No. 08 GP Earthworks Dodge) had a previous best of sixth in 2003; fourth-place Tim Woods III (No. 54 Chino Hills Ford Ford) had a previous best of 12th in 2002; and fifth-place Andrew Lewis (No. 18 Teen Arrive Alive Chevrolet) was getting his first look at the track. It also marked a career-best finish for Lewis overall, as the leading candidate for the Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award scored his first top-five.

  • Career-best finish . Another Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender Chris Schmelzle (No. 90 Talcore Walls & Ceilings Chevrolet) also had a career-best finish at Monroe - finishing on the lead lap in eighth.

  • Home track mark . Ed Watson (No. 55 Ellstrom Manufacturing Ford) notched his first top-10 finish in three starts this year, crossing the line 10th on the lead lap at his home track.

  • Double Awards . After qualifying 13th at Monroe, Woods went on to finish fourth and capture the Featherlite Most Improved Driver Award and the POWERade Power Move of the Race Award. He had finished 20th in the previous race a week earlier at Irwindale. Featherlite presents the award at each event to the driver who improves the most finishing positions from the previous event. POWERade, meanwhile, presents its award to the driver who advances the most positions in an event.
