DOUG TRUE; A MODEL OF CONSISTENCY IN THE ASA LATE MODEL SERIES

Doug True and the True Motorsports team have shown what consistency and perseverance can do for an up and coming team. No matter the obstacles thrown their way, True and his crew continue to strive and continue to show they belong in the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts.

After finishing fourth in the final 2004 ASA Late Model Series points standings, The Dowagiac, Michigan driver had high aspirations heading into this season. The 2005 campaign started off on the right foot with a solid 10th place showing at the Baer Field (IN) Speedway on May 7th during the 2005 ASALM Series opener. The momentum continued at the next event at the Madison (WI) International Speedway on May 27th over the Memorial Day Weekend holiday. The 29-year-old started on the pole of the Bryden Motors 100 and ran in the top five through the majority of the event, won by Wisconsin super star and NASCAR Busch Grand National Series driver, Bryan Reffner. True would finish a season high eighth

The momentum slipped slightly at the series next event on June 18th at the ultra fast high-banks of the I-70 (MO) Speedway, True dropped out of the event with mechanical problems but rebounded quickly at his home track, the Kalamazoo (MI) Speedway on July 1st where his second 10th place showing of the season started the team off on a good note for that weekend’s Mid-Michigan Doubles Weekend. The next day’s event, July 2nd was at the Calhoun County (MI) Speedway. True tied his season high finish of eighth with a solid performance.

The last two events however have not worked in the teams favor as a crash at the series next event on July 23rd at Illiana (IN) Motor Speedway forced the True Motorsports team to a back-up car for the A.S.I. Limited 100 held last weekend, July 30th at the famous Indianapolis (IN) Raceway Park. Ignition problems in the back-up machine forced the familiar White and Red #93 to drop out for the second week in a row. Despite the problems of late, True still sits solidly in 10th place in the season long points chase.

"We’re going race by race right now." Explained True when asked about his future plans for the remainder of the 2005 season. "We’re up in the points and we want to continue to run the series, but without some big sponsorship, it gets harder and harder every race. Our sponsors we have now have been wonderful to us." Continued the Wolverine State driver. "Plus we have future plans of advancing right along with the series and its’ National Tour in 2006, but in order to do that, we need the sponsorship to help us then as well as get us through the rest of this season." Ended True.

2004 was a breakout season for Doug as he racked up an impressive five top five showings with a season high third on two occasions. At Lake Erie (PA) Speedway and again at Berlin (MI) Raceway. Overall, he recorded five top 10s en route to an impressive fourth place finish in the final point's standings.

Doug began his career in Go-Karts in 1983. He captured his initial track championship in 1990. He started racing Late Models in 1997 competing at the quarter-mile oval of South Bend (IN) Motor Speedway. After completing college, Doug began racing on a regular basis in 1999.

Prior to running full time with the ASA Late Model Series, True gained experience in a Super Late Model and also in a Late Model at his home track of Kalamazoo (MI) Speedway as well as Berlin (MI) Raceway, Calhoun County (MI) Speedway, and Thunder Valley (MI) Speedway. True has also seen time at Hoosier state tracks such as Plymouth (IN) Speedway and South Bend (IN). Doug also competed part-time in the CRA Super Series in 2003, with appearances at Baer Field IN as well as Kalamazoo MI and Berlin MI.

The True Motorsports team will now focus on the next event on the 2005 ASA Late Model Series schedule. Friday August 5th will see a return trip to the Baer Field (IN) Speedway in Fort Wayne, Indiana for the 8th annual International Gold Cup 100! In the series first appearance earlier in the year at the ½ mile semi-banked paved oval, True continued to show his knack for consistency as he managed a 10th place finish.

Seven events are now completed in the 2005 ASA Late Model Series schedule, True currently sits in 11th place in the season long points chase. Despite a recent string of hard luck, the 29-year-old driver had not been out of the top 10 all season long in the points standings until heading into this weekend! Four top 10 finishes have helped the Wolverine State driver stay in the upper echelon of the points standings. His highest finishes this season include two eighth place showings at the Madison and again at the Calhoun County.

Despite not having any primary sponsorship for most of the 2005 season, True still carries limited sponsorship on the side of his Chevrolet Monte Carlo from Amerihost Inn, as well as True’s own companies, T.R.P. True Racing Products and True Welding and Metal Fab. Also on board are Define Herbicide, Option Herbicide, Tyler Automotive, Lane Automotive, H.E.I. Wireless, 99 Signs, and Torco Racing Fuel.

True Motorsports still actively seeking sponsorship for the remainder of the 2005 season as well as looking ahead to the 2006 campaign. To learn more about Doug True, log onto his website at: www.dougtrue.com
