MIKE SKINNER READY FOR DOUBLE DUTY THIS WEEKEND AT INDIANAPOLIS

Mike Skinner
Team Tundra Event Preview

Race/Date: Power Stroke Diesel 200- Aug. 5, 2005
Location: Indianapolis Raceway Park–Indianapolis

NOTES:

  • This week’s race truck for Indianapolis Raceway Park is Chassis No. 5-70. This is a brand-new truck to the Bill Davis Racing fleet.
  • Double Duty… Mike Skinner will try the infamous double this weekend in Indianapolis. He will race his No. 5 Toyota Tundra Friday night at Indianapolis Raceway Park and attempt to make the field for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard in the No. 23 AutoManiac car. This will be Skinner’s fifth attempt at making the field in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series during the 2005 campaign.
  • Sheer Domination… In his first two Craftsman Truck Series races at IRP in ’95 and ’96, Skinner started on the pole, led 350 laps and won both races. No other Truck Series competitor has matched that feat to date.
  • Gail Davis’ ride with Petty & Friends … Last weekend, Gail Davis took to the open road to join the 2005 Chick-fil-A Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America. This was Gail’s 10th trip with the Petty entourage, which embarked on its 11th- annual ride across the country to help raise money and awareness for children’s charities. The ride started in Lake Oswego, Ore., Saturday, July 23, and concluded at the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, N.C., July 31. To learn more, go to www.kylepettycharityride.com.

  • Listen and watch … The Power Stoke Diesel 200 is scheduled to start at 8:45 p.m. ET Friday, Aug. 5. It will broadcast live on Speed (TV), MRN (radio) and XM Radio channel 144.

    Bill Davis Racing Quotes:
Mike Skinner on racing at Indianapolis Raceway Park:

“In the first two events held at IRP in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 1995 and 1996, I seemed to have the most dominant truck in the field, leading all the laps. I think the trucks are a lot more aero dependant now than they were back in the early days. The tires and chassis have changed so much, and the level of competition gets higher and higher each year that passes.

“I think IRP fits my driving style. I love short tracks. I like them much more than the mile-and-a-half tracks. The only difference between when I ran really well on them and this year are the programs. Our program is awesome on mile-and-a-half racetracks, and I am just OK on them. I feel like I am a better short track racer. I do not think our program is where it needs to be to capitalize on them.

“I think this race team that we have at Bill Davis Racing has the potential to be as strong as my team back in 1995. We are not there yet. Our mile-and-a-half program seems to be one of the best, since we have dominated some races and ran awfully well, but as a whole we are missing some things. I think the more we work on our program, the stronger we are going to get and hopefully will be as dominant as I was back in 1995 and 1996.”

Crew chief Jeff Hensley on racing at Indianapolis Raceway Park:
“I would rather win IRP than Daytona. Hensley Racing had a lot of success there in the Busch Series, but I could never get to victory lane. It seems as if the track has my number. Anything that could go wrong did, and it would mean so much for me personally to get to victory lane.”
