NAPA AUTO PARTS 200, A Tribute to Hershel McGriff” NASCAR Winston West Series FACT SHEET

WHAT: “NAPA AUTO PARTS 200, A Tribute to Hershel McGriff” NASCAR Winston West Series plus the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Late Model Stock Cars in their season championship race.

WHEN: Tuesday July 4, 2000. Gates open at 11am, with racing at 2pm.

WHERE: Portland Speedway, 9727 N. MLK Jr. Blvd, Portland

ADMISSION: $35 & $25 for Adults, $20 & $10 for kids 12 and under. (upper and lower section seating)

NOTES OF INTERESTS:

* This is the final asphalt race in Portland Speedway’s storied history.

* Hershel McGriff started his racing career at Portland Speedway in 1945 and won the first pavement race held at the track in 1946.

* Portland Speedway will convert to a clay-racing surface after this event and will host the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series August 25 & 26.

* There will be an end of the era party and ground-breaking ceremony immediately following the Winston West Series event.

* This is the seventh of 12 races on the NWWS 2000 schedule and the only visit to Portland Speedway this season. It will mark the final series race at the historic oval. The asphalt on the 1/2-mile oval is to be removed following the race, as the speedway is converted to a dirt surface.

* The track dates back to the early days of the series and the Pacific Coast Late Models. The circuit has visited Portland Speedway for 53 races, with 35 of those in the modern era since 1971.

* There have been 12 different winners in this event in the last 13 years. Bill Sedgwick, who won in 1992 and 1999, is the only driver with two wins during that span. Winners included Chad Little in 1987, Derrike Cope in 1988, Bill Schmitt in 1989, Roy Smith in 1990, Mike Chase in 1991, Ken Schrader in 1993, Rick Carelli in 1994, Ernie Cope in 1995, Lance Hooper in 1996,
