IRWINDALE, California -- George Ruark, 42, Hemet, Calif. had a disappointing night Saturday in the #19 Ruark Racing Late Model.
After qualifying twelfth early in the day, Ruark started off the race looking promising. He had already moved into ninth position when in only lap 10 of the 75-lap race another car got into Ruark in turn three causing him to spin sideways. Several other cars collided with Ruark when he was sideways.
"It's a shame because the car was getting really good," Ruark said. "We've had so many good races lately, but these things just happen. It wasn't our night."
Although the crew worked to get the car back on the track to finish the race, a broken rotor prevented them from doing so.
"I saw that wreck coming two laps earlier," said late model driver Craig Yeaton. "That's just racing."
Ruark has been racing in the late model division at Irwindale Speedway for the past five years. He is the team owner of Ruark Racing. This year he is also running a limited number of races in the Ruark Racing Southwest Tour car.
The next late model race at Irwindale is August 20, 2005. There are four more late model races at Irwindale this season.
