DRIVERS GEAR UP FOR NORTH STATE CHALLENGE AT LAKEPORTLAKEPORT SPEEDWAY

![]() LAKEPORT, California -- Round two of the Robinson Rancheria Casino & Bingo North State Challenge will be held at the Lakeport Speedway this Saturday Night. The North State Challenge Series features touring super late models and has traveled to five different speedways during the 2005 season. Lakeport has been hosting the series on an annual basis since 2000. The top three drivers in the points standings hail from Lake County with Mike Doss of Nice holding a 32 point lead over defending NSCS champion Bill Binns of Upper Lake. Doss has two wins to his credit, the first at Lakeport on June 11 and the other at Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka on June 24. Binns won the May 28 event at Ukiah. Running third in NSCS points is rookie driver Derrick Thorn of Lakeport. Thorn is a past bomber champion at Lakeport and ran two years in the modified division before jumping into the Dana Stahl super late model. Thorn was the winner of the last two NSCS events, the first at Champion Motor Speedway in Carson City, Nevada, on July 16, and more recently at Redwood Acres Raceway on July 30th. Thorn trails Binns in the points chase by 29 points Four place runner Josh Bews of Roseville will be gunning for his first win at Lakeport as will sixth place Junior Roddy of Gualala and Crescent City’s Howard Ford (7th in points.) Other preregistered drivers include Northern California Racing Association Jimmy Stillman of Upper Lake, Darin Snider of Kelselyville, Kevin Estep of Clearlake Oaks, Bob Lozano of Barrow, Alaska, Jeremy Hopkins of Lakeport, Mike Bourbon of Piercy, David Furia of Healdsburg, and Mike Lovell of Upper Lake. The North State super late models will run a 75 lap feature event with $1500 going to the winner. The modified division also returns to the speedway Saturday night for the final Red / White / Blue mini series event at Lakeport. This series pays $600 to the winner of the modified 30 lap event. Running first in the Red / White / Blue series points chase is Gary Lowblad of Upper lake. Also competing in Saturday’s auto racing action are the NCRA mini stocks and bombers.
Gates open for this special event at 5:00 pm with racing at 7:00 pm. General admission is $11, children ages 6 to 11 pay only $5, and kids five and under get in free.
