MIKE DUNCAN HAMMERS DOWN AT STOCKTON

STOCKTON, California -- After three consecutive runner-up finishes in NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series action at Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway - Mike Duncan finally took home the big prize, winning the 4th Annual Dodge Country NAPA Auto Parts 200 on Saturday.

Duncan started fourth and ran in third for much of the event, before charging out front in the late stages. The defending series champion managed to avoid numerous bumps and spins that beset many of his competitors through the 206 laps on the tight quarter-mile oval.

After starting on the Bud Pole, Scott Lynch faded with mechanical trouble near the midway point of the race. He rebounded to finish second after his crew made repairs to his car's electrical system during the midway break. David Gilliland finished a close third, with Steve Portenga taking fourth and Daryl Harr in fifth.

It was Duncan's second consecutive series victory and the fifth of his career.
