Byron Gonzales of Carmichael, Ca leads the best drivers in the west coast into Saturday afternoon’s 100 lap event at All American Speedway in Roseville, Ca. The fast paved quarter-mile oval will be hosting the eighth date in the inaugural season for the west’s newest premiere late model series.
Gonzales has held the point since the second round of the series, but faces a strong charge from Melissa Davis of Santa Rosa for the points lead.
With an eighth-place finish at Champion Motor Speedway
in Carson City, Nv on August 6, Davis has vaulted to
second in the points, 18 markers back from Gonzales.
Davis has six top-tens in seven starts, but only two
top-fives. Gonzales, who was tenth at Carson City, has
six top-tens, five top-fives, and a win.
Davis drove for Westcar Series promoter Jeff Macey in
last weekend’s Grand National West race at Stockton 99
Speedway, finishing 16th.
Besides Davis, other drivers showing momentum are
Bobby Butler of Citrus Heights and Steve Daniels of
Orangevale.
Butler finished fourth at the last Roseville
appearance, was fifth at Carson City and is sixth in
the points as a rookie.
Daniels was a part of a three-driver, two-car musical
chairs, which ended up leading to Daniels winning the
Carson City race in commanding fashion.
Daniels is now campaigning the car that Tim Bost won
with in the season opener. Al Vautier purchased the
car from Gary Glenn and ran Josh Bews of Sacramento in
the car on July 23rd but he crashed hard early in the
race.
Daniels replaced Bews and subsequently won at Carson
City. Bost then purchased Daniels’ old car. This
driver switch will add even more spice to Saturday’s
event.
Westcar has seen seven different winners in its seven
races, but Daniels’ new ride is the only vehicle to
see victory more than once.
Gonzales will also be gunning for his second win in
front of his home crowd to try and put the
championship to rest while Davis will attempt to close
in on the points leader.
Fan gates open at 3 p.m. with qualifying at 3:45. The
dash, qualifying race, and feature race will be held
at 5:30 with the 200 lap Enduro starting at 7:30.
