MOTORSPORTS USA PREPARES FOR THE MUSA AUGUST SPECTACULAR AT THE OWOSSO (MI) SPEEDWAY ON AUGUST 26-28

Motorsports USA (MUSA) will be hosting the MUSA August Spectacular at the 3/8s miles high-banked paved oval of the Owosso (MI) Speedway in Ovid, Michigan on Friday-Sunday August 26-28. The three day event has attracted over 100 cars from the five different divisions that will be on hand. Super Late Models, Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks from all over the Midwest will race the three-day weekend for their share of more than $70,000 in purse money.

Gary Spencer, the Founder and President of MUSA, credits the race friendly purse breakdown for the positive driver response. "I was a partner in a race team." Spencer explains. "Through my experience, I decided to divide the purses between more cars so that every driver has a better chance of breaking even.

MUSA is also giving every race fan a chance to win all weekend. Every night, eight race fans will win their invitation to the Super Late Models 100-lap feature on Sunday. $1750 will be divided amongst three lucky winners. MUSA will also be giving away eight bikes every night to the young race fans as well.

The format for all five divisions will be as follows: the top 18 cars in all five divisions will be locked into their respective features. The next four positions will come from each Last Chance Race. Finally MUSA will reserve two promoter’s choices to fill out each 24-car field that will take the green flag for the five big features!

On Friday August 26th, the Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, and Pure Stocks will take to the multi-grooved 3/8s mile high-banked paved oval and all three will qualify. The Limited Late Models Fast Qualifier will get a $200 bonus while the Street Stocks fast timer will receive a $100 bonus. The Pure Stocks fast qualifier will also get $100 for their efforts. All three will then run their respective Last Chance Races while the Pure Stocks will then highlight the evening and run their huge 50-lap feature paying a $700 to win and $100 just to start!

Saturday August 27th will see the Super Late Models and Modifieds join the action as both divisions will qualify. The Fast Qualifier in the Super Late Models will receive a bonus $500! The Modifieds Fast Qualifier will get a $300 bonus! Only the Modifieds will be running their Last Chance Race this evening. Then the Limited Late Models and Street Stocks will co-highlight the evening with each running their respective 75-lap features. Both features will pay $1500 to win and $100 to start!

Finally on Sunday August 28th the final day of the August Spectacular will start off with the Super Late Models running their Last Chance race. Immediately following the Supers will be the Modifieds 75-lap feature paying a whopping $3000 to win and $300 to start! The final event of the MUSA August Spectacular will be the highlight of the weekend, the Super Late Models 100-lap feature paying a cool $7000 to win and $600 just to start!

The pre-entry list reads as a who’s who of the Outlaw bodied Super Late Model racing community. Amongst the early entries include hometown favorite and Michigan Motorsports Hall of famer and winner of last month’s North VS South Shootout and 15th annual Will Terry Memorial, Owosso’s own Tim Felver. Fellow Hall of Fame member, John Grega is also entered as well as former track champions, Dan Krzywosinski and Phil Massuch.

Other super stars include, Angola, Indiana star and three-time winner in the Main Event Racing Series, Scott Hantz, Edgerton, Ohio standout, Jack Landis. Also Johnny Belott, Former NASCAR Craftsman Trucks driver Stan Boyd, Veterans John Doering Jr., Harry Foote Jr., and Stan Perry. Also current points leader at the Toledo (OH) Speedway, Claude Plante Jr., and ARCA Remax Tour regular, Michael Simko. All are expected to take on Owosso’s home track favorites including, current points leader, Jon McNett, as well as Jimmy Gallagher, Jason Felver, Jeff Hackworth, David McManus, current rookie points leader, Morgan Keil along with a number of great drivers to guarantee a great show for the fans all weekend.

The stout pre entry list is not limited to just the Super Late Models; The Limited Late Models will see all three members of the potent Hoose Racing family. Two-time and defending track champion, Tom Hoose, along with brother Steve Hoose, and son Tony Hoose will lead a stout field of Limiteds that also includes veterans Mark Welch and Jimmy O. Smith as well as current rookie points leader, Chad Anklam. Also Angola and Baer Field (IN) Speedway regular Darwin Wolfe has filed an entry as well.

The Modifieds will see the Luckhurst family on hand to defend their home turf, six-time and defending track champion, Bill Luckhurst leads the pack! Brothers, Mike Luckhurst and Phil Luckhurst have entered as has former track champion, Todd Matheson and multi-time track champion on the East Side of Michigan, veteran Buck Harsen! Current Michigan Modifieds Association (MMA) State Pavement Points Leader Jason Parish, two-time defending Spartan Speedway track champion and defending American Modifieds Series Champion, Bud Perry and USA Modifieds Series regular, Dan Logan have also filed entries.

The Street Stocks and Pure Stocks will see strong fields for the biggest purses these divisions have seen anywhere. Defending Street Stocks track champion, John Forsythe will lead a strong field that includes current points leader, Tom Stone, long time track regular, Cody Houghtaling and Spartan Speedway regular, Mike Ammerman. The Pure Stocks will see Eastern Michigan traveler, Timmy Near lead a strong field of Pure Stocks as he’ll go up against current points leader, Luke Wier, multi-time feature winner, Leroy Whitaker and a host of others.

Tickets and Pit Passes can be purchased throughout the weekend at the Grandstand and Pit Gates. Both will open at Noon all three days with qualifying to begin at 6pm pm and Racing set for 8pm on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday the Gates will still open at Noon with Racing set for 6pm.

MUSA and the Owosso Speedway are independent entities. MUSA will solely be in charge of the entire operations throughout the weekend of the August Spectacular. MUSA has leased the track from the current Owosso Speedway owners and management.
