Lakeport, CA--Locked in a fierce duel for the Lakeport Speedway track championship in the Open Outlaw division, Randy Looney from Redwood Valley edged out Rick Schamber in Friday night's main event as the weekly Outlaw Kart action continued. It was the second win of the 2000 season for Looney and left him just 7 points back of Schamber in the championship fight. The pattern continued in the 125's as the second place point racer, Justin Holt won the main event with point leader Derek Thorn second. Thorn's point lead is a narrow 23 points. Bradley Terrell from Santa Rosa continued his domination of that class with his 7th win as he holds a 56 point lead over Derek Holt, who was second in the feature. Trenton Banfill was a first time winner in the Box Stocks with Noel McCormack in second.
Schamber was the fast timer for the Open Outlaws with his 9.890 lap and Looney took dash honors ahead of Eric Mostin and Schamber. Kyle Medina and Jerry Stutsman shared the heat wins. Looney took the main with Schamber second ahead of Stutsman, Medina and Alisha Hopkins. Mostin is 3rd in points, 40 behind the point leader and 37 ahead of Medina. Justin Holt enjoyed a perfect night in the 125's as he clicked off the fastest lap of 10.168 and won the dash ahead of Doug Marshall and Derek Thorn. Holt captured the heat race and then battled through numerous wrecks and caution flags to win the main with Thorn second ahead of Joel Shura, Cecelia Fulton and Marshall. Shura closed to within 21 points of Darrin Sullivan in the duel for third in points as Trevor Brown is fifth in points.
It is the first season for the Pro Box Stock class at the track and Cody Haskett's fast time of 10.444 was quickest lap ever turned in the class. Kelsie Kennedy won her third trophy dash as Terrell ran second ahead of Derek Holt. Terrell took the heat race to preview his feature win and the feature finish found Holt second ahead of Kennedy, James Beall and Ryan Strugnell. Kennedy is just 11 points back of Holt in third place in the point standings. Strugnell is tied with Ian Elliott for fourth in points. As usual, the Box Stocks were the largest class and Jo Jo Helberg posted fast time with a 11.804 lap. Billy Binns won his second dash as Helberg ran second ahead of Steven Gossner. Thomas Beall won the slow dash. The four heat races went to Banfill, Kaitlyn Cooper, Andrew Anderson and Noel McCormack. McCormack also won the C Main and Anderson the B Main. Banfill's first feature win saw McCormack ending a busy night with a second ahead of Peter Lawrence, Anderson and Binns. Mitchell Anthony is the Box Stock point leader with a 70 point margin over Binns with Justin Furia just 13 points back of Binns. Kasandra Martinson and Steven Grossner round out the top 5 in points.![]()
