MOORPARK, California -- When Ryan Newman is hot, he’s hot.
Newman picked up his second NASCAR Busch Series win in two weeks on Saturday at what he considers his home track in the Domino’s 250 at Michigan International Speedway.
After Busch qualifying was rained out, Newman started his No. 39 Alltel Dodge 38th in the field. He took advantage of the restart with only six laps to go to pass Greg Biffle to score his second Busch Series win of the season.
On Sunday in Nextel Cup GFS Marketplace 400 race, Newman rolled onto the grid in the fifth starting position, but with the tricky guessing game of fuel mileage strategies, he rolled his No. 12 Alltel Dodge into the garage at the end of the day in 12th.
Newman retains his eighth place spot in Nextel Cup points.
His teammate Rusty Wallace didn’t come home far behind Newman on Sunday. Wallace finished directly behind Newman in 13t and remains fourth in championship standings.
Their teammate and Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender Travis Kvapil and his No. 77 Kodak/Jasper Engines Dodge was involved in an accident on lap 179 and finished 38th.
The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) visited the home of Elvis for the O’Reilly Mid-South NHRA Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park over the weekend.
Greg Anderson and Kurt Johnson met at the line for the fourth time in Pro Stock finals this year on Sunday.
KJ got the advantage off the line, but Anderson hunted him down to pick up his seventh win of the year, 6.801/201.29 mph to 6.834/201.88 mph.
Anderson sits out front of the POWERade points championship by 73 over KJ and 132 ahead of Warren Johnson.
For the second weekend in a row, Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagles dominated the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle competition.
Teammates Andrew Hines and GT Tonglet met at the line; however the outcome was different this week.
Tonglet fouled at the Tree, giving the complete advantage to Hines. Hines crossed the line 7.161/180.52 mph and also regained the points lead from Tonglet, but only leads him by 15 points.
The NHRA takes a weekend off before heading to Indianapolis for the 51st annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park, August 31 thru September 5.

On Tuesday, Chub Frank knocked off the competition in the Stacker 2 World of Outlaws Late Model Series Advanced Auto Parts 50 at Rolling Wheels Raceway (NY).
