It was Yelm National Auto Parts night at South Sound Speedway on Saturday and the prizes were abundant. T-shirts, hats, gift certificates, posters and much more were given out to the fans. The Late Model Super Stocks, Top Notch Trailers Street Stocks, Yelm National Auto Parts Bumblebees and the Vintage Modifieds were all there to take advantage of the great generosity of Yelm National Auto Parts. Joe Constance set the fast time for the Late Model Super Stocks on their last race before the Championship night. Tom Sweatman won the trophy dash over Mike Obrist, Nick Behn and Constance. Bob Coffey won the B main event with Bob Emerson in second. Both moved on to the A main. Jerry Clark was third and got the trophy. Brent Porter was fourth.
Jim Wilcox and Brad Stanwood started on the front row of the 100-lap race. Before a lap was completed there was a pile up in turn two that took Pat Schwartzkopf out of the race for the night. The race was restarted and Wilcox took the lead. While coming around for the second lap Mike Obrist spun in turns three and four down into the dirt. The rest of the pack finished the lap while the flagger waited to see if Obrist would restart. He didn’t so the flag was thrown putting Obrist a lap down to the pack. The race got going with Jim Wilcox out front and Nick Behn in second followed by Tom Sweatman. Another caution was thrown on lap nine when Dan Obrist spun Brad Stanwood and Willy Thom spun to avoid the situation. Obrist was given a black flag and sent to the back along with Stanwood who stayed on the lead lap. Willy Thom had a small electrical fire on board but it was put out fast and Thom was fine but he was done racing for the night. Another caution was thrown on lap 20 when Mitch Franklin spun and went off the track. He was back three laps later for the restart. Ray Wallace jumped the restart by passing before the green flag came out and was flagged and lost one lap. Wallace went off the track a few laps later with a problem and was on and off a few more times during the night.
At lap 31 Jim Wilcox was still out front with Nick Behn in second. Tom Sweatman was running third and took over second on lap 32 bringing Joe Constance around Behn also for third. On lap 57 the leaders were going into turn one when all three of them spun together into the corner. All three were put to the back and Nick Behn was now the leader with Brad Tanner in second and Al Carver in third. Also on the lead lap were Tim Gosch, Brad Stanwood and the three former leaders who had just spun. Lap 61 brought out another caution after Brad Tanner spun but stayed on the lead lap. Lap 77 brought out the final caution when Al Carver and Joe Constance got together. Constance got a flat tire and went into the pits but was back out losing only one lap. Al Carver stayed on the track on the lead lap. Jim Wilcox left the track on the caution and was done for the night. Brad Tanner was running third when something went wrong in his car and he pulled into the middle of the track. Mike Obrist was fighting hard with Nick Behn to get his lap back and did on lap 88. Tom Sweatman had moved his way back up to the front and took the lead from Nick Behn on lap 90. Tim Gosch lost a lap to the leader on lap 97. Tom Sweatman pulled ahead to win his fifth main event win of the season in the Late Model Super Stocks. Leon Ames took his car off the track only to bring it right back on and then off again. Jim Swanson took the lead on lap ten while Jay Hopkins dropped back to third and Paul Hopkins moved up into second. Paul Hopkins dropped out of the top three on lap 14. A caution was thrown on lap 16 for fluid on the track. Paul Hopkins, Sean Riley and Bill posh Jr. all left the track on that lap. Hopkins was the only one to return. Ford man, Jim Jussila was in fifth, in the #5 Chevy of Dan Woodward, at the restart of the race on lap 17. By lap 24 Jussila had moved into third spot and then into second on lap 27. By this time Swanson had a huge lead over the pack but Jussila made it up and with 4 laps to go Jussila was right on Swanson. Swanson held on though and won his third main event of the season.
