STOCKTON -- A lot of race fans have been holding their breaths in anticipation of who would emerge as the winner of the Saturday, Aug. 20 HAVOLINE Western Late Model race. Following a thorough technical inspection, Stocktons Pete Anderson Jr. was named the winner.

The win let Anderson Jr. notch his fourth win-mark in the NASCAR DODGE Weekly Series Div. II premier division at Stockton 99 Speedway and gave him a boost in a still contentious championship points race.

Following the win, Anderson Jr. emerged from competition with 878 points, only 43 points ahead of NASCAR Drive for Diversity driver Allison Duncan of San Rafael, who is at second with 835. Turlocks Chris Monez is trailing Duncan with 830, Granite Bays John Moore is in fourth with 761 and Stocktons Gary Shafer Jr. rounds out the top five with 747.

The Western Late Models have two points nights left, both 100-laps, the first is the third leg of the Tri- Holiday series on Sept. 3 and the last is the Sept. 17 double-points night.

On Saturday Stockton 99 Speedway will host round II of the USAC Triple Crown racing series, which will feature dual 50-lap open-wheel racing in the Western Sprints and Western Midgets divisions.

The 50-lap VALVOLINE Western Sprint race is sure to be a fantastic duel for the series points lead, as only 88 points separate the top-five, with 74 available at Stockton.

Kody Swanson is the current leader, hes 12 head of defending series titlist Tony Hunt. Mike Murgoitio, Tim Barber and Brian McClish trail respectively. These five entrants alone are enough to draw an open- wheel race fan to the track, but add to it that the California Asphalt Sprintcar Association (CASA) has sanctioned the race, so that its drivers can also earn points in it, and additional drivers like CASAs division points leader Nick Rescino Jr. will be there -- ensuring a competitive field!

The Western Midgets will add to the BIG doubleheader. Murrietas Robby Flock will be there and hes hoping to take the next step toward a fifth USAC Western Midget title this Saturday. When the remaining members of the top-five -- Jerome Rodela, Tyler Brown, Garrett Hansen and Stephen Graves -- join Flock on the fastest paved quarter-mile West of the Mississippi, theres sure to be some exciting race action!

Stockton 99 Speedways Grand American Modified and CL BRYANT American Limited Stock Car drivers will be on the track for a 50-lap and 30-lap main events.

The GAM 50-lap race is promising a winners purse as high as $1,000 and points toward the series championship. That means that the divisions hottest drivers will be out for this HUGE evening of racing.

Sacramentos Jason Philpot is leading the GAM division with 466, Modestos Kyle Gottula is trailing him with 445, Dixons Jerry Dubach is in third with 442, Salidas Sam Solari is in fourth with 425 and Ripons Mike Regelman rounds out the top-five with 368.

Thirty-one CL BRYANT American Limited Stock Cars turned out for last weeks race, that made for one rough-and-tumble, 20-car, 30-lap main event. With only a couple of ALSC races left, and Saturdays being a points make-up night, its possible that another wide field will show.

Modestos Charlie Clawson is leading the ALSC with 966, Stocktons Joe Allen is trailing him with 907, Stocktons Chad Holman sits in third with 870, Escalons Darrell Hughes is in fourth with 792 and Stocktons Richard Harper is in fifth with 734.

Parking at Stockton 99 Speedway is always free and every fan that buys a ticket receives a free issue of Stockton 99 Racing News, the tracks official newsletter and souvenir program. Master Card and Visa are accepted at gate 2.
