#16 NAPA TEAM TO RACE UNDER THE LIGHTS AT CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY

ANTELOPE, California -- The first race of the NASCAR weekend at California Speedway scheduled will be the NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series “Relocate Here 200 presented by the County of San Bernardino” to be held on Friday night, September 2nd. The #16 NAPA AUTO PARTS Chevrolet has been to victory lane one time during the last four seasons. NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Brendan Gaughan took the checkered first in 2001. Driver Steve Portenga has recorded a win at the 2-mile super speedway in 2003 and looks to add a second win to his resume. Portenga pulled away from the field in 2003 to win by the largest margin of victory for the series at the California Speedway, beating NEXTEL Cup driver, Ken Schrader to the checkered flag by 2.459 seconds.

“We have good equipment with our speedway car,” said Portenga. “It’s by far the best car I have ever raced in my career. It has the best of everything and we’re going to close in on getting that fourth NASCAR West Series championship for NAPA AUTO PARTS.”

“My last race effort was in 2003 with King Taco as my sponsor,” continued Portenga. “We’re in King Taco country by racing at Southern California. We’ll have King Taco on our deck lid and we’ll do our best to repeat the win for them.”

The #16 NAPA AUTO PARTS/NAPA Belts & Hose team is fresh off a win from Pikes Peak International Raceway and looks to keep the momentum going with another win. They are currently in third place and 102 points out of the top spot. They are 44 points out of second place with four races to go in the season.

The “Relocate Here 200 presented by the County of San Bernardino” NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series race will kick off the NASCAR racing weekend on Friday, September 2nd . The green flag is scheduled to drop at 8 pm PST live on HDNet. Tickets for the race are $20 for adults with children 12 and under free. Log on to www.californiaspeedway.com for more information.
