BIG TWIN 100'S SATURDAY NIGHT AS STOCKTON 99 SPEEDWAY PRESENTS THE HAVOLINE TRI HOLIDAY CLASSIC ROUND III PLUS SRL WILDWEST SERIES SHOOTOUT

Stockton 99 Speedway's HAVOLINE Western Late Model drivers have two championship points races remaining. The first is this Saturday's HAVOLINE Tri Holiday 100 Classic final leg and the second is the Sept. 17 100-lap title race. Two races have never been as important in local NASCAR DODGE Weekly Series competition as these two have shaped up to be.

Stockton's Pete Anderson Jr. leads the WLM championship points race with 878, but the gap between him, second place points holder Allison Duncan (835) of San Rafael, and third place's Chris Monez (830), of Turlock, is only 58 points. If any of these drivers has a bad night, in conjunction with another accomplishing something like a division sweep, then the standings could change. Add to the fact that the final 100 will be a double-points night and you have a situation where no drivers can afford to set their sights on anything less than top finishes in qualifying, dashes and the mains.

Grabbing top finishes is hard enough on any given night, during BIG 100-lap events it's even tougher. When running a 100, drivers have to deal with all of the track's talented drivers, gauge their cars' performance for the added stress of additional laps and compete against more than just the regulars, as additional drivers always converges on the track for these big shows.

Among the additional entries that Anderson Jr., Duncan, Monez and the rest of the Western Late Model field could have to deal with are 2004 champ Dave Byrd of Monterey, consistent top-10 finisher Scott Masellis of Modesto and the skilled Shannon Mansch of Roseville. Any of these three could shake things up. And there's always the chance that past track multi champ Harry Belletto -- who will be there for the SRL -- could decide at the last minute to enter, which would add an increased competitive element to the evening that could end up effecting all of the drivers.

Outside of the Western Late Model points race is the HAVOLINE Tri Holiday championship itself. This three-race series title is something that late model stock car drivers, from all over California, have come to regard as prestigious in short-track racing.

Duncan currently holds the lead in the series with 96 points, Anderson Jr. trails her by 2 with 94 and 2004 HAVOLINE Tri Holiday champ Byrd and Granite Bay's John Moore are on both of their tails with 82 points each. When the checkered flag drops on this event, the occasion will be momentous, to say the least. If Duncan takes it, it would be the first time in Stockton 99 Speedway's history that a female and rookie wins, a win for Anderson Jr. or Moore would be a first for both and if Byrd does it it would be a repeat.

The CALIFORNIA WELDING SUPPLY SRL Wildwest Series Shootout returns to Stockton 99 Speedway Saturday for the third time this season and it will bring a host of talented drivers with it.

Wiltons Jason Fensler is leading the SRL points race. This five-time Stockton 99 Speedway 100-lap winner will likely be the man to beat Saturday, but no one should wager that he's a sure thing. This season four different drivers have won SRL main events, including Tracys Mark Smith, who won the Aug. 20 Altamont race, Rosevilles Eric Schmidt, who won the May 14 and July 30 Mesa Marin events, Ceres Kenny Boyd, a Stockton 99 Speedway multi champ who won the July 2 event and Fensler, who won the April 3 opener at Stockton 99 Speedway and a total of five so far this season.

These drivers, along with the regular field of over 20, which consists of the famed racing Belletto family -- dad Harry, son Jeff and 2004 SRL champ Steve, are sure to deliver excitement in between the green and checkered flags.

The CL BRYANT American Limited Stock Cars are going to be back on the track Saturday for that divisions last race. The double-points night will be fueled by a big car count.

Modesto's Charlie Clawson is leading the ALSC points race with 1,016, Stockton's Joe Allen is in second with 952, Stockton's Chad Holman is in third with 920, Escalon's Darrell Hughes is in fourth with 840 and Stockton's Richard Harper caps the top five with 781.

The Pro-4 Trucks have been off a few weeks, but will round out Saturday's racing events. Lathrop's Mark Henslee has the lead with 789, Milpitas' Ron Robeck is in second with 762, Lodi's Mike Curry is in third with 731, Oakdale's Nathan McNeil is in fourth with 696 and Mantecas Brian Hitchcock is in fifth with 640.
