DAYTONA BEACH, Flordia -- South Boston (Va.) Speedway was closed Aug. 27 and will be idle once again on Saturday, Sept. 10. With just a few remaining opportunities to solidify his lead in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division I point standings, Peyton Sellers has taken full advantage of every chance he gets. Sellers, of Danville, Va., earned his 12th Late Model victory at the track last weekend, boosting his NDWS Division I point total to 1,112. Sellers now leads by 21 points over his closest rival in Division I and at least 28 points ahead of all national championship contenders.

The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series national championship, which awards a $50,000 bonus, goes to the NDWS Divisional champion with the highest point total overall, based on their best 16 finishes of the year. Sellers leads this select group, while Division II points leader Chris Spieker, of Massena, Iowa, is second-highest with 1,084 points. Donny Reuvers, of Dundas, Minn., leads Division IV with 1,072 points and Kevin Nuttleman, of Bangor, Wis., leads Division III with 1,068 points. Each of the four NDWS Division champions will receive a $25,000 bonus and be recognized at November's NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series awards banquet in Nashville.

Tim Karrick, who competes at Lakeside and Linn County Speedways in Kansas, is ranked second in the NDWS Division I standings with 1,080 points. Tom Charles, who races at the same tracks as Karrick, is third with 1,056 markers. Nick Parker, who competes at Rocky Mountain Raceways near Salt Lake City, jumped from seventh to fourth in the NDWS Division I standings, after recording a victory in the track's Modified class last weekend.

The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division I championship points race will be contested over the next two weeks, until the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series season concludes Sept. 18. Sellers, whose home track is closed again this weekend, can boost his title hopes by competing at other tracks in Division I. Under NASCAR's new format, NDWS divisional championship points can be collected at any track within the same division, provided the driver is competing in the track's premier NASCAR-sanctioned class.
