SAN BERNARDINO, California -- The ASA Super Late Models continue their action-packed season long battle for supremacy this Saturday night at Orange Show Speedway’s tight ¼ -mile oval. The ASA Late Models, Sport Compacts, INEX Legend Cars and their companion division Bandoleros and the open-wheel stock cars, or better known as the Grand American Modifieds fill out the event card as well.
John Manke, Ramona and Ron Overman, Lakeside have waged a torrid battle all season for the top spot in the ASA Super Late Model division trading the lead back in forth each week with only four points now separating them with Manke holding on by a thread. If Overman has his way that will change this weekend. While these two former Cajon Speedway competitors dominate the division, Jeff Thompson, also from Lakeside and Riverside’s Mark Shackelford are third and fourth in point respectively. Rick Chavez rounds out the top five point getters so far and with only three events remaining in this 2005 racing season it should be a brutal fight to the end for the championship.
In the ASA Late Model division, veteran racer Richard Hooper has won the last two main events in this competitive division helping him rise to the top of the leader board for the point’s championship. He sits comfortably in third place only four behind Dave Arce and ten behind the leader and rookie Anthony Maniella. Sherm Taylor and Rick Richardson round out the top five.
The Grand American Modifieds bring their open wheel stock cars back to the Orange Show Speedway for the third time this season. Danny Gay won the last event in convincing fashion by leading all 35 laps of the feature after fast qualifier and pole sitter Dean Kuhn broke on the parade lap. Youth prevailed in second place with Colton resident David Ross and Tim Morse completed the top three.
In Sport Compacts, Art Ramirez holds a slim four-point lead over Jered King. Moreno Valley resident and rookie competitor Robert Hodge is third with Tony Dumont, who travels from Costa Mesa to compete is fourth and veteran racer Ted Reich holds down the fifth spot in the points chase.
Also on tap for Saturday will be the INEX Legend Cars and their companion division Bandoleros. The Legend Cars are actually two divisions rolled up in to one with the Master and the Semi-Pro battling it out in two different main events.
Spectator gates open at 5:00 pm and racing action gets underway at 6:30 pm. Admission will be $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for seniors & military, $2.00 for juniors 6 to 12 and children under 5 are FREE.
