LAKEPORT, California -- Gary Lowblad of Upper Lake was crowned champion of the Red/White/Blue modified mini series after the modified feature event at the Ukiah Speedway Saturday night. Derrick Crayford of Santa Rosa placed second in the series and Thomas Wright of Kelseyville finished third.
The Red/White/Blue modified series began at the Lakeport Speedway in April and concluded in Ukiah on September 10. Each track ran four races to determine the overall championship.
Lowblad was 109 points ahead of Crayford going into the night’s action, and although he did not finish the feature due to engine problems, he had enough of a lead to clinch the championship with his 15th place finish.
Lowblad, Crayford and Wright, along with several other Lakeport Speedway modified contenders, will next run in the three-track Western Modified Nationals which begins at Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka on September 24-25, then heads to Shasta Speedway in Anderson on October 8-9, and concludes at Lakeport Speedway as a part of the 16th annual KXBX October Classic on October 15-16.
