September 17, 2005… JR Ray topped off his 360 Wingless Sprint Championship run on Saturday night at South Sound Speedway by breaking the track record with a 13.320-second lap and later winning the main event. Ray and Brian Geiszler previously held the record. Glenn Walker led all four laps of the trophy dash for the win. Casey Walker led all eight laps of the B heat race for his first win of the season. John Tharp was second and Jason Thomas was third. Rich Leighty and Brian Geiszler started on the front row of the heat race. Geiszler took the lead on lap one. A caution came out after the first lap after JR ray got into Geiszler causing him to spin. Geiszler and Ray were both sent to the back and Ray was penalized a lap for the incident. Geiszler won the heat race over Mike Basher and Rich Leighty. Kirk Eklund led the first lap of the main event before a caution came out. Jerry Erbele and Jason Thomas spun in turn four. Erbele was off and done for the night. Eklund stayed out to the lead with JR Ray moving into second on lap three. The second caution came out on lap four when Casey Walker spun and hit the turn three wall hard. Walker climbed out of his car and was fine but the front end of his car was demolished. After the restart JR Ray took the lead and Brian Geiszler fell into second. Mike Basher moved into third and Doug Kammerzell was fourth. The final caution came on lap nine when John Tharp spun. After 25 laps JR Ray won his fifth main event of the season and clenched the 2005 360 Wingless Sprint Championship. After qualifying fast Finch led by 12 at the start of the main event. Finch had the pole with Shane Sawin on the outside. Kelly Ensor and Jeremy Richardson left the track before the race got started and were both done for the night. The race went green but on the first lap there was a pile up. Mark Jones was the only car to leave the track but he returned before the race got restarted. Finch took the lead when the race finally went under green. Sawin fell into second and Bradley Shaw into third with John Boyatt in fourth. The first caution came on lap 13 when John Pokorny spun. Devin Eierman pulled up to reentry for the re-alignment and his car caught fire. The fire was put out quickly and Eierman didn’t even have to leave the track. It was an unfortunate end to the season for Finch who ran so well all season. After the 50-lap main event Shane Sawin won his sixth main event of the season. John Boyatt finished second with Devin Eierman in third. Dave Cline finished fourth and won the trophy dash earlier in the night. Mark Jones finished up fifth. The rest of the race ran caution free and John Grosvenor took the win. Chris Cunningham was second and Wayne Dillon was third. Jerry Koepping finished fourth with Terry Rennick in fifth.
