DONNY REUVERS NASCAR WEEKLY DIVISION IV CHAMPION

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida -- After what can only be described as a career season, 29-year-old Donny Reuvers has added his name to the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series record books – as a champion. Reuvers, who raced two nights per week at both Elko (Minn.) Speedway and Raceway Park in Shakopee, Minn., won the 2005 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division IV championship.

Reuvers will collect a $25,000 bonus as the Division IV champion. He is also ranked second in the final NDWS Division IV standings, by virtue of leading the NASCAR point standings at both facilities. (One driver per track is ranked among the divisional leaders; the driver with the most NASCAR points at each track as of Sept. 18 is ranked.) Reuvers will collect a $15,000 bonus for finishing second, for a total of $40,000 in post-season prize money.

In addition to his NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series divisional success, Reuvers won Late Model championships at both tracks. Since 2002, Reuvers has collected nearly $55,000 in post-season awards from NASCAR.

His accomplishments will surely be noticed in his hometown of Dundas, Minn., a small community of 694 residents located 44 miles south of Minneapolis.

By winning this year’s NDWS Division IV title, the first under NASCAR’s new points format for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series, Reuvers adds his name to the list of Minnesota drivers who have achieved regional and national success with NASCAR. Jeff Hinkemeyer, of St. Cloud, Steve Murgic, of Rosemount, and Mel Whalen, of Shakopee, have all won championships under NASCAR’s former “regional” format that was re-vamped in 2005.

Reuvers’ 2005 season was indeed a memorable one. At Elko, his Saturday night racing home, Reuvers recorded eight wins and 20 top-five finishes in 24 starts. At Raceway Park, where he competed on Sunday nights, he won 12 times in 17 races, while never finishing outside the top five. Each drivers’ best 16 finishes, from any track in their Division, are used to determine their point total towards the divisional title. Reuvers’ combined total, based on his best 16 finishes at Elko and Raceway Park, was 1,072, 20 points more than third-place runner-up Jeff Malave of Manchester, Conn.

Reuvers and the other three divisional champions will be honored at the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series awards banquet, Nov. 5 in Nashville.
