IRWINDALE, California -- George Ruark, 43, Hemet, Calif. ran his last late model race of the Irwindale Speedway season Saturday.
Though the final points race had already entered, Ruark participated in a shootout put on by the track which was broken into two segments, a 100-lap race and a 25-lap shootout.
Within the first quarter of the race, Ruark had made his way from his eighth place qualifying lap to third. Unfortunately he was involved in a collision that sent him spinning into the infield.
Ruark went a lap down at the time but continued on full force.
“I really felt like that could have been a great night for us,” Ruark said. “That was the best my car has been all year, but we still ran a good race and had a good time.”
Before the end of the 125 laps, Ruark made his way back to tenth.
“It was really fun to watch,” said Rick Miller, Dodge Super Truck Driver. “He had a really good run.”
Ruark will compete in the October Classic in Bakersfield, Calif. on the 15. He plans to drive a super late model as a rookie in Irwindale next season.
