TUCSON, Arizona -- Season championships were decided and Brice Bonnett took the $1,000 win in the elusive Bud Shoot Out and captured the Super Late Model main event. Dusty Fielden won the Super Late Model championship by 8 points over Joe Paladenic. Tim Blodgett secured his NASCAR Late Model championship with a victory in the main event. P.J. Megna powered his way to victory lane and his first championship in the Grand American Modifieds. Mike Vaughan claimed another Mighty Compact victory and his second consecutive championship.
Brice Bonnett won the 40 lap main event for the Super Late Models, taking the lead from Dustin Jones on lap 11 and holding off Chad Bowden to capture his fifth win of the season. Matt Levin ended up in third for the second consecutive race. Larry Kayton finished fourth and Ron Norman in fifth. Dusty Fielden finished in ninth place with a flat rear tire. The finish gave him the Super Late Model title by 8 points over Paladenic. Paladenic was running in third position with five laps to go with the championship in his reach. Coming out of turn two, Paladenic and Dustin Jones were collected into the backstretch wall and were damaged and unable to return to the race. Fielden managed to finish the race on a flat rear tire and claim his first Super Late Model championship.
The Bud Shoot Out, a $1,000 to win race for Super Late Model feature winners saw Brice Bonnett take home the money, bragging rights and a Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Budweiser 1/4 scale car. Bonnett jumped to the early lead and powered his way to the victory. Chad Bowden finished second, Larry Kayton edged out Matt Levin for third and defending Super Late Model champion and 2004 Bud Shoot Out Winner, Ron Norman, finished fifth. Chris Barr took the Bud Open win and transfer to the Shoot Out and placed seventh.
NASCAR Late Model action saw Tim Blodgett capture his fourth win and his first NASCAR Late Model championship. Blodgett, a two time Factory Stock champion, also competed in a Super Late Model and finished eighth in the Super Late Model main event. Blodgett inherited the lead after a early yellow flag and held off Scott Strachan for the win. Brad Moyer finished third and Robin Boomgaarden fourth with rookie sensation, David Rooyakkers in fifth, his first race in the NASCAR Late Model division.
P.J. Megna capture the Grand American Modified championship and a victory in the main event. Megna took the lead on lap six and went on to Budweiser Victory Lane. Carl Thomae finished second, Bob Cramb ended up in third with J.D. White in fourth and Jim Rogel rounded out the top five.
Mike Vaughan won the Mighty Compact season championship for the second consecutive year. Vaughan captured the main event win after taking the lead from Becky Harrington on lap three of the 17 lap race. The race length at 17 laps was in honor of Mighty Compact driver, Robert VonColln, who remains in serious condition after being involved in a motorcycle accident. VonColln drove the #17 car in his rookie season and won his first main event on July 16, 2005. Jim Bates finished in second with Becky Harrington in third. Jeff Bennet finished fourth and Jason Neve rounded out the top five.
