MOORPARK, California -- Ringers Gloves racers not only swept qualifying at the fifth annual Ameriquest Mortgage NHRA Nationals at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill., but they also landed in the Winner’s Circle at the end of Sunday.
KB Racing ended up in the Winner’s Circle for Pro Stock, but it wasn’t POWERade points leader Greg Anderson. Instead it was his teammate, Jason Line.
Line took on Erica Enders in her first Pro Stock final, which also made her the first woman to do so in class history.
After an engine change in the Slammers Ultimate Milk pit, Line waited patiently for Enders at the line. The wait paid off for Line as Enders got a little too excited and red lit at the Tree.
Funny Car saw Reading winner Tony Pedregon take on Schumacher Racing’s Ron Capps.
It was Pedregon’s second finals appearance in two races, but this times Capps came home the victor. Pedregon spun the tires right off the line and Capps raced onto a 4.760/327.82 mph win.
Capps’ win moved him from fifth in POWERade Funny Car standings to third and only within 45 points of his teammate Gary Scelzi.
In Top Fuel, the story isn’t much different this week. Tony Schumacher had a tremendous weekend in front of his home crowd.
Shoe was No. 1 qualifier, beat his own national record, won the race and extended his points lead even more.
He beat Doug Herbert who smoked the tires early on. Shoe’s winning run was 4.535/328.94 mph.
The NHRA drag racers head to Dallas this weekend for the O’Reilly Fall NHRA Nationals that was postponed a couple weeks ago due to Hurricane Rita.
