Antelope-CA-- Sarah Fisher, driver of the Bill McAnally Racing/RCR’s #20 NASCAR Select by NAPA Filters/Domino’s/Office Depot Chevrolet, took on the D-shaped short track of Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle, Texas with a renewed desire to run for her first NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series win. Coming off a disappointing finish at her last race in Roseburg, Oregon, Fisher and the BMR focused their efforts on the inaugural Allstate Texas Thunder 200. Before a crowd of more than 7000 race fans, Fisher qualified the #20 NAPA Filters Chevrolet in third which put her starting on the inside of row two.
With the fans on their feet, the 200-lap race went green. Fisher was running side-by-side with Texan C.T. Hellmund when Fisher and another competitor made contact bringing out the first yellow of the race at lap 18. Fisher went a lap down. While working her way thru traffic, Fisher made contact with the #90 of Takuma Koga bringing out the second caution of the race. Fisher, after receiving the “Lucky Dog" continued to charge towards the front when at lap 76; she made contact with the #54 of Tim Woods III. Fisher restarted the race in 15th and on the lead lap. The third caution came out when the #08 of Scott Lynch spun on lap 95. Fisher was now running in eleventh. Fisher continued to run towards the front after the halfway break in the race at lap 100. By lap 106, the #20 NAPA Filters Chevrolet was on the score board in eighth. At lap 119, Fisher would spin again. More determined than ever, Fisher got up on the wheel and continued on her charge towards the front. With less than fifty laps to go, Fisher was now running in fourth bringing the fans once again to their feet. On the final restart after a caution on lap 162, Fisher lost a couple of positions and took the checkered flag finishing the race in sixth. This is Fisher’s third top-ten finish of the season and is running in 12th in the chase for the series championship.
The next NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series race will be on Saturday, October 15 at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, California. The race will be televised live on HDNet.
