BAKERSFIELD, California -- Andrew Myers third place finish in the Ford Credit 150 Saturday night at Mesa Marin Speedway gave Myers his second consecutive top five finish in the NASCAR Grand National West Series.
Myers, driving the Toyota of Escondido/Redline Oil #44 Monte Carlo started 7th and once again used his dynamic duo of cagey crew veterans to charge to the front. “Phil Bonifield and Jamie Aube are the best!” exclaimed an excited Myers as he exited his racecar. “This car was giving me fits in practice but once the race came Phil and Jamie just new what to do to the car and what to say to me to put us up front. This has been a great season, I am so proud of this team, especially Phil and Jamie. For those two to come from the east coast every time we race and just make us better and better, man they are my heroes.”
Myers fell as far back as a lap down early in the event and with less than fifteen laps to go in the advertised distance Myers was as far back as tenth. Cautions forced the event into overtime. In those extra laps Myers first worked his way to fifth and on the final restart came from fifth to cap his evening and the season with a stellar third place.
Modesto, California’s Mike David won the race giving him his third career victory in the series and securing for him a season ending fifth place in the point’s standings. Mike Duncan used his second place finish to overtake Scott Lynch for the series championship after Lynch finished a disappointing 17th place in the Grand National West season finale.
Andrew Myers racing plans for 2006 are undetermined at this time. “We have
a
lot of opportunities and interest from sponsors and team owners in other
series.” I am just hoping someone will give me a chance at the next level.
I
think it would be a lot of fun to race in the Craftsman Truck Series.” Said
Myers as he was leaving the racetrack.![]()
